So I am new to owning websites and domains. I have the opportunity to have my own domain, but I don't know what to do with it? It's as simple as that. The domain doesn't currently have a name so I would have to figure out a name and go from there. Can anyone tell me what I should do and how to do it?

The domain you can have for free?

You would want to build around it a site that has an appeal to you as well as to a demographic.

You'll need to host it somewhere... do you have a hosting account?

Well build a website of course, that's what domains are for ;)

Seriously now, think of what you're good at or what you'd like to learn about, pick a keyword in that niche and create your domain for that. Host it somewhere, if you're going for a blog you can create a blogspot blog and use custom urls to add your domain to be used instead of the blogspot generic one.

Sorry to say that after setting it up comes the hard part, building it up and promoting it :) but good luck !

Actually i don't understand what you are trying to say, if you have a domain then build a site on it, How your domain have any name??

Owning a domain is not an opportunity its very easy and cheap unless you have any premium domain.

Opportunity is not enough. My advice is to leave the domain for now and start reading threads. I'm sure that after a while, you'll know from where you want to start your IM biz

He's saying he has the chance to get a domain, prolly for free, and it can be whatever he wants it to be.

You should consider picking a domain name that had to do with a topic you want to make a site around. You're also going to need hosting, you can find web hosting cheap a couple bucks a month just google for it.

Probably the best thing to do is just create a site, pick a topic that you're interested in and create a site around it. After that you can monetize it but it will be easier if the topic is based on something you're interested because a successful site needs good and fresh content for you to regularly provide. After starting your site (easiest is Wordpress both for site creation and adding new content). Once you have a legit site with content read about and learn how to do SEO - building back links.

Don't spend much if any money on back links to start you want to learn how to do the basics and you can do a lot of link building manually without spending anything.

From here just keep adding good content regularly and building good back links regularly and you will gain rank in Google and other search results while also providing the content visitors want. By this time, depending on your niche/topic you should have an idea of how you can make money off of your traffic whether it be Adsense/ppc ads or cpa offers or related stuff for sale via affiliate programs where you get a commission.

at least build a site on it otherwise its all for nothing
