What to do when someone copies your content?

I recently ran one of my websites articles through a copyscape search, and it turns out that some asshole has decided to copy the whole article on their own website and publish it as their own.

1. Will this hurt my SEO ranking (as i understand it, google doesn't know which site published it first?).

2. Other than contacting the owner, Is there anything i can do to get this removed?

If he has strong site Google might choose to show his on serp. So yes

The search engines do know who’s article was submitted first, they know what date your was indexed. Whoever copied your article, likely found it from a google search which obviously means yours was indexed first. In this case you’ll likely be ok.
 
Thanks for the quick response guys. Seems like this asshole has been duplicating my content for two months.

The site's metrix are pretty even with mine PA and DA wise. His site has 1 more PA than me and I have 1 more DA than him. He receives a lot more traffic though.

The mentioned site seem to consist mainly of copied information for other sites. It does seem like his strategy is to copy the copy max a few hours after publishing.

I just sent a Google request to deindex, sent him a notice to delete the content and filed a complaint with the hosting provider, although I probably did not fill it correctly as I was stressed and wrote it in a hurry.
 
Contact the site owner and explain the situation. Possibly, the stolen, republished content, could be attributed to a contracted writer that stole your content and published it on behalf of the owner (unlikely, but possible).

Your BEST bet is to contact the site admin, inform him/her of the duplicate content, and respectfully inquire about removal. If the owner is uncompliant, file a DMCA takedown request.

You can file DMCA claim with Google too - Google responds much faster and will likely deindex their page based on your complaint. Although, it shouldn't effect YOUR ranking if your content was published on there first.

I'm not so sure about that.
A few hours ago, the article was ranking #4 on google. Now, it is being left out, and i need to go to page 6, and then click:

"In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries that were very similar to the 90 already shown.
If you want, you can repeat the search with the excluded results included."

Yet the copied article is ranking at page 3... Fucked up right?

Hi Dantello!

I read all above converstions, what i understand that if still the person copy's your content this you directly report to the Google by take a snap of your published article date along with that person's, in this way he can't take advantage of his high DA or PA site's.
 
Many articles available on Google go there and pick and file DMAC with Google. You to go there and submit a form to let the google know who is copying your content.

Is there any chance that the whole site will get blacklisted from Google if enough reports are submitted?
 
Glad to hear that you got this sorted, there's nothing worse than having the article that you spent hours and hours writing get stolen by some butt hole with no morals who is too lazy or too cheap to do the work themselves!

Having said that, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so you must be doing something right!
 
Glad it got resolved. If he's publishing them within two hours, do you have an RSS feed on your site? Something like "yourdomain.com/blog/feed/"? (enabled by default in WordPress) If so, he might have been using a tool to scan the site for new articles and automatically import them. Wordpress has a few of these tools, so I'm sure other platforms do as well. You might want to do some analytics on the RSS feed and find what IP he's visiting from... then block it in your firewall or .htaccess file. That would be a longer term solution for prevention of further content being "creatively acquired."
