I'm going through some keywords and realising that often the search results, even on exact, are wrong.

For example 'Rugby store' and 'Rugby shop' have the same search value. I think 'free documentaries' and 'online documentaries' or 'watch documentaries', 2 of the 3 had the same value when I searched earlier too.

What do you do in this case? It seems like the keyboard tool is acting like a thesaurus and giving the same search value numbers for phrases with the same or similar meanings.

Anyone else noticed this, and if so how do you decide which keyword to go with?

All those tools are just estimates. I've seen keywords with traffic double the estimate searches and some half that. It just gives an indicator how popular that phrase is relative to the others on the list.

Check out the update, Google has announced today that they have made the keyword data predictions more accurate:

LOL, kinda funny that came out today seeing they are getting sued.

use a few different kw tools to compare results with googles kw tool see what you get

The truth is the only ones who know how much traffic their is for a KW is Google. When i do KW research i take the exact traffic volume that Google supplied as ball park. With my many sites, i have seen many times that the numbers were spot on or even low, but other times the true numbers are nowhere near what the tool said it had. You just have to try and see.
