What to do against COPYCATS

Nice thread, was wondering on a few of these issues myself.

I just finished off a post yesterday afternoon. Today I was looking at comments on my website and recognized my writing immediately. This guy was trying to leave a comment on my website with an excerpt from my article. I clicked his link and there is my article and another I wrote, word for word, picture for picture.

His copy of my article on his site, still has the links I used that link too other articles on my site, and at the bottom says "read the original here" linking back to my site.

I wouldn't mind if it was just an excerpt linking back, but as I said this is the whole kabang, with adsense plastered round it, and he's competing in the same niche as well.


I'm struggling to find out the host for a domain name that's stealing my material, anyone really good at this sort of thing?

Can also do a whois and notify the offending webmaster's ip provider of the violation. Some hosting providers will remove websites where there are clear violations.

1. it doesnt work. anyone who is replicating your site isnt copy / pasting from a browser. and if they were they are probably savvy ewnough to use ctrl+c to get round it.
2. it stops legitimate users from right clicking links on your site and selecting open in new tab, or similar.

You're right, but the plug-in shared by cloakme has a nice option.

You can see that it says:

Both disable right click and disable selection of text can be switch ON or OFF through Settings menu.

Which gives some advantages to the problems you desribed.

Threatening legal action not only to them but to their HOST is an almost infallible method to getting the content taken down. And even if that doesn't work, it's highly unlikely that someone stealing your content is going to hurt anything other than your pride. It's harmless if you have your own thing going, in most cases.

Thanks, I tried a bunch of whois so I could get the hosting as well as Google, nothing comes up for his domain, no privacy or anything it's weird. Google will do though for a DMCA though.
 
This also happened to me, my site has been copied. My rankings fell like in a sink. Still can't recover.

Idd branded content is the way to go although it doesn't hurt to be using wp-copyprotect.

Thanks for that, going to set that up.

I wouldn't bother that much about nicking my content after it has been indexed on my website first. This guy though, must have have had that copied and up in hours of me publishing it. I just don't want me being penalized form my own work.
 
Google authorship is a good idea but i'm pretty amazed this is a topic in the blackhat section of blackhatworld. Its sad Google's new updates are making taddle tales of everyone. Not to mention that on this very same forum there are how to's on autoblogging and scrapper blog creation which are some of the most popular threads on he site.

My personal view of it, is that if the person is able to clone your site, your content and impact your earnings to the extent it drove you to post here, then id say you need to evaluate your seo, link building, website and everything else you are doing.

If a crappy copypaste site is taking your earnings, re learn how to market your site. Join DP and file reports to Google telling on everyone stealing your content.
 
I've already said that I don't mind people whipping my content, but what's so bad about people writing original content and wanting attributed to their website first?

I'm not sure how Google awards original content to a specific website, but if a large website that's spidered all the time, posts my content within hours of me posting it, and there's little old me who's website is spidered far less, who ends up in Googles eyes attributed with that new unique content? I honestly don't know.

So if a newbie is just starting out and doesn't have the experience you do with backlinking strategies, and whatever else complains about his new unique content getting stolen, the answer is off you pop to DP?

No, but if the same person has the ability to download and take the responsibility of a legally copyrighted theme, then I think bitching about someone taking their content is double standards (IMO coding a theme is harder work than writing an article).

Makes it worse when posting the thread in "Blackhat SEO" and the out come is to "report the site to Google", when it's more than likely the site is owned by a member here.

Also when the outcome given is not read the threads on BHW learn SEO, and out rank the site in question. "It's tell on them" that's not really learning or helping anyone...

If OP wants a quick fix and reports to Google, then yes, my response is... off to DP.

I wouldn't have had any problem with it if some autoblogging site got my content and spun the crap out of it, but this is not the case so stop assuming that.

Outranking is what I do my friend, but isn't that the first thing we do over here?

Anyways, just because I didn't talk about outranking you shouldn't have assumed that I didn't do that, and call this all "bitching". Thanks to this thread I learned we can do other things besides outranking, which can only improve results. For me, and others, this outcome in such a thread is not bad at all. We're just getting the right to what we made, we're not letting some copied spun content get deleted. (Which you could refer to as bitching).
