What the hell is up with Wordpress blogs and HostGator?

try installing the plugin in w3 total cache and also make sure that you optimize yout mysql DB as mentioned above. Some plugins are resource hogs. I not that statspress is one of them. so after you install the w3 total cache plugin disable all your plugins and add them back one by one in the order of importance. It may be that you just have to many hogs running at one time. HTH

Did you manage to sort this out Grandslam? I always think it's useful to get feedback, even if it's just in case the same thing happens to me!!

By the way, mine are working fine with HG, just like everyone else.
 
I found something new..

My websites that do not rely on mySQL work great. The websites that rely on mySQL such as wordpress, then you can experience some database slowness at times, giving you long load times. During one of these long load times, I hit refresh and a database unavailable error came up.

This happens at random times, but quite frequently (maybe once a minute it seems). I think their database is overloaded.
 
too many plug-ins or too many TAGS and Categories due to auto-blogging can do that - Alot of my auto bloggs have so many tags that the Javascript stops due to too many tags - you create the monster and now it is out of your conrol! hahaha
 
Actually, not to the extent we are seeing. Sure it can slow things down if you have thousands of tags and categories, but this problem happens on fresh WP installs with no posts, let alone autoblogs.

It's a database connectivity issue, simple as that. I've spent three hours in chat with the HostGator 'techs' and the only reply I can get from them is 'it works for me'. I am strongly considering moving to a dedicated server and do it myself (like I usually do) if this is the type of technical advice I get from supposedly one of the best hosting companies around. I was hoping to simplify my tasks. I will contact them a few more times, and see what a 'new' tech has to say... was a frustrating morning.
 
@makingfastcash22 - I only have one plugin installed now and its still running damn slow, so I don't think that's the problem. (it could be though somehow, who knows at this point)

Still runs slower than mud. I can't say it was like this back in November (the last time I can remember everything running fast), so I'm wondering if HG has changed something since then for baby hosting customers.


I'd like to take some time and thank kenblack for his excellent follow-up regarding this issue. Hopefully both of us can find a solution to this.

I feel your pain bud. So sorry to hear that. But it's happened to all of us at one point or another and you'll recover

I hate to say it, but the foolproof way to solve this issue is to rebuild it in another location. Even local. If you can't do it on the main wp site then some cheap-ass host. Add your themes and plugins and widgets and all, test along the way. Then content. Something in there is the sand in your gears. I'm sure this is not the way you built it: you prob did themes, content, plugins, content, widgets, content, themes, etc. But if you build it in a straight line and everything plays together OK that could work too. Next re-create it in a straight line on HG and the oddment will be gone.

If HG support can't help you're down to performing a QA slog IMHO. Pretend someone hired you to hunt it down, write the steps as a QA test script and execute.
 
Have Hostgator & WP 2.9 and all is fine and have 42 plug-ins

I'm onto my THIRD Hostgator account and I'm still having issues - I'm installing it via the fantastico installer they give you in cpanel. What methods are you guys using to install? Is there another way you guys are using?

This is killing my productivity. :(
 
I am using hostgator also, I am not having the problems... I also used the default install with fantistico.

How many sites are you pinging? When I make a post it usually takes a couple minutes to load. 5-10 minutes seems kinda long

I haven't done any pinging or anything yet - the site is virgin.
 
Just to let you know, I found the issues with my wordpress on Hostgator.

The problem is related to the shared accounts, and the limited database resources the give each account. Don't get me wrong, you will have enough to run anything you need, but sometimes wordpress needs a little more hand holding to keep things working properly.

I have created a patched database file, that you place in /wp-content/ (name it db.php)

You can get it from here:

I am not providing a virus total, or any crap like that, so please review it before installing it.

This is for Wordpress 2.9.2, and the latest Wordpress MU 2.9.2

This does not overwrite any files, so when in doubt, or you want to simply test, you can delete or rename it to disable it.

I'm having the same issues too. Server load was not heavy: Low cpu usage and few processes. Sometimes I even lose the tags after successfully updating the post (and that's after waiting 5mins++ for it to updateS)
 
never had any problems with hostgator i simply love them.

You simply drop it in /wp-content/ and rename it db.php

Wordpress will detect, and start using it right away.
