I am looking for a laptop under 700$
I will mainly research, write and do video editing on it,probably using DaVinci Resolve (no gaming)

What would you suggest ?
What minimum specs should I look for?

Used Macbook or the Lenovo IdeaPad. Acer, HP, Dell, and Lenovo all offer nice laptops for $700 and less.

The 2014 Macbook Pro 15" with the 2.8Ghz i7 looks like a good deal. You may want to pick something closer to $700 if you are editing lots of 4K content per week.

Used Macbook definitely. I feel like it's much better than any other new laptop at that price.

Used Macbook for under $700 or if you want warranty go for i3 or i5 processor from lenovo, hp, dell, acer, samsung, LG or Asus

thanks guys for the answers!
Having to edit some simple files and videos on DaVinci Resolve ,are 8 GB RAM enough ?or should i atleast have 12 ?

You need 16 GB RAM for browsing and videos files.

I don't think any laptop in that price range can edit videos efficiently. I mean you can still do it but you'll face lags and crashes. It gets pretty annoying. I'm a windows guy but if you can raise your budget a bit, get Macbook air M1.

I tell you refurbished is grey market parts.

Add $100-200 and get yourself a refurbished Macbook Air M1. A big, big difference from any other laptops in this price class.
By adding $200 he can get a brand new Air M1. Current price is $899 for the 256 gb version. 512gb costs $1149 which doesn't make sense. Instead buy a portable SSD.

You should add some more in budget and go for Macbook Air M1. It 's awesome.

You pay so much import tax in India and price of Indian currency is ridiculous

The portable ssd will have problems. I got my 1tb ssd fried in 2 months after using it with my m1 mac mini. Apple probably does this intentionally lol. :D

You should stick with Windows. That is what we had been using since PC was launched. And Samsung is your best bet.

Ewww... I won't touch that spyware with a 10 ft stick to be honest. If it aint mac, Ubuntu is fine.

Not going to argue with this one.
Hmmm it probably was my fault partially, as well, anyway. I mapped that ssd to docker's internal volume. But I don't have docker set to run when my machine starts (i used to start it only if I was working)... still, the ssd light would always be on for some reason (and it would be warm... always :| ).

I wonder why hmmmm :p
