What keeps you motivated?

The fact that I'm good in what I do, banking hard, buy nice things, have complete time and economical independence, living a life the regular guy can't.

I look at my family and remember how we used to live before. That gives me days of strength and motivation to go on without sleep if necessary.

Money, goals(short-run and long-run), ability to do whatever i want whenever i want and no boss above my head... that motivates me..

This is absolutely fantastic! 100% agreed with you!

I can't help but feel my motivation is somewhat different to a lot of people here, or at least the way they are describing their motivation. A lot of people are mentioning money and sex, and while they are obviously a form of motivation I see them more as short-term goals than long term motivation.

Personally, I think my motivation is simple, once I'm gone, I want to have created a legacy that will live on without me. Money and sex are fantastic, but when you're coming to the end of your life it would be good to look back and remember the great times you had with people and to know that you've inspired others than to know you've got $1,000,000 in the bank and you've slept with 40 supermodels.

Don't misunderstand me, money is important (and will help in achieving my long term goal) and sex is fantastic - but when it comes to long-term motivation they're mostly irrelevant to me.

Nice post!

As for myself, I truly enjoy what I'm doing now. I use to debate about subjects that I was interested in while working a full time job out of the house. It's not too hard for me to stay focused on my goals because the ride is so pleasurable for me. Once I figured out that I was a decent enough writer that people would pay for my words, I realized that I had finally found my dream job. Some people around me may turn up their nose or disagree with it being a real job, but the end result is positive and I can make more now than I could at any job previously.

In short, the thing that keeps me motivated is knowing that I can make good money doing something I love. Why would I slack off and lose it all?

Well, I know saying this in BHW might get me banned but I actually hate money. I have no interest in Flashy Car, Big House..blah blah blah

However I have a family, Fiance whom I need to marry... So, it's necessary to get money

Let's say my if it was for myself, I would give a shit about money

But for my family and people I love, I would work my ass off to provide them with everything they need.

Another thing helping poor people ( Charity ) worth everything in the world

Motivation is just one part of the equation, you can be motivated all you want but if you sit on your ass doing nothing all day, you won't get very far. It's momentum that gets you going, you need to build momentum to get going.

I share exactly the same thought, without momentum on your side you cant achieve crap even if you are damn motivated and determined.

For me it's pleasing my family! Money isn't the be all and end all to life, there's loads to enjoy that money simply can't buy like family, love, memorys and so on! I could happily live my life on a minimum wage and not worry about it, however I want to be able to provide for my family and make them proud :) Also if I end up with kids I want them to have a much better live than I have had so would leave some money behind for them .

There are so many things to keep you motivated, family, friends, desire to be successful. One of the main things that get me going is to provide everything for my loved ones, I will never let my kids (once I have some) go through the same life I've been.

Fantasies reduce motivation - thinking that we've already succeeded can reduce our motivation. We might think that thinking about success makes us want it more, but it actually backfires.

The Placebo effect - this is when you think that something like a drug has an effect on you when really it doesn't. It's your thoughts that actually resulted in you getting better.

It's the little things that matter - We think that it is the big events in our life that changes us, but it's actually the little things adding up that makes us who we are.

just my 2 cents

Just being able to live comfortably. Knowing that I will be able to provide for my family's needs and wants.

Good thread. To begin with, I'm naturally a competitive person. What really makes me motivated is becoming the BEST at my craft. I'm a big fan of historical figures who were the best at what they did, like Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander the Great, Da Vinci, Michelangelo. When I die I want to leave a positive image behind, I want people to remember me based on my skills and my ability to do something well. Being an average person has never been appealing to me, I want to be the best me possible. I know human beings can't be perfect, but I want to be the perfect VERSION of myself, meaning the best version!

Money is another great motivator for me. Not just so I can have a bunch of money laying around the bank. I want money because I want to buy EXPERIENCES. I see money as a tool for me to EXPERIENCE things I've never had. For example going to a restaurant I've never been to, going to concerts, traveling to places, being able to give my family opportunities. Another thing money brings for me is security, I love being secure knowing that I won't have to starve or suffer.

Finally a big motivator is family. EVERYTHING you do today affects your family and ultimately affects the people you care about. Here's something personal about me, I don't really have a huge and caring family. I have a few family members who I care about and have treated me well, but the concept of family is deeper than that. What you do today affects your future children and future wife, assuming you don't have a wife or children yet. It also affects your grand kids (I'm too young for this, but this concept is deeper than just my present day family.) The actions I take today will shape the future of everyone that carries my last name in the future, even if I don't get to meet them.

Haters motivate me the most.I love when someone says it cant be done.then money of course
