Lets say I have a digital agency focusing on sales.

I heard that Google needs to see me as an authority - and so that I should write blog posts on that topic to increase Topical authority. Does it even exist?

How to increase it? I understand backlinks game, but do I need to write blog posts also on this topic? Would that help me?

Hope I dont say thisn wrong but if your competitor notices your *content* is causing you to rank and they know blackhat, expect them to scrape and rewrite everything you have dont.

You should write very detailed articles. Whatever visitors google sends to your blog, the visitors should spend time there. It will increase the authority of the blog and google will start ranking the site even higher.

Content is important. Backlinks are also also important. Quality of both of these as well as quantity will determine the topical authority of your website. When you start to rank and satisfy user intent, authority in Google with further increase.

They would have to be really good.

Rewriting the content would most likely totally change the semantics and ruin the whole effect for them.
