OK. I am conducting a test. I used each of the above redirect URLs that still worked. I then created a shortened link that pass page rank and that contained redirected gov link. I then spammed the shortened link out to about 20,000 sites that are primarily link bait but are crawled regularly. I also directly indexed the shortened redirect URL's with several 1000 index sites.

The purpose was to use known spam sites to mitigate against penalty and a url redirect that creates a static page from a dynamic page for indexing from both the index sites and from the spammed pages. The shortening service will report back to me what kind of access the shortened URL obtain and both Google and Bing WBT will tell me if the gov links are indexed.

In a few weeks, if I can find the thread, I will report the results back.

I didn't see any of their links indexed.

But googling a random one like, http://www.yonkersny.gov/redirect.aspx?url=
Shows plenty of other people doing the same thing.

I tried it a while back with the youtube redirect and a few other but didn't have any luck.

Maybe I'll try to get some of these indexed with GSA.

Well getting them indexed is next to impossible.I have seen 5% indexation rate but ahrefs/majestic pick them pretty well and PA/DA shoots up.

id like to believe this works but something tells me it don't. But then again I'm intrigued to test it out on some throwaway site

Its very Interesting, I believe this is useful for redirect url, cause of in Google's eyes that just a dynamic pages.so I think if we do link building for it, Google can be index it.

If it comes off, the guy has some high-juice back links, which can't be sniffed at. On the other hand, he might just attract some really unwanted attention. Time will tell.

OK. Conducted the tests. The spammed shortened links did not accomplish anything. The next thing that I did was to create two pages on domains I own. These pages had no links to them from the sites themselves. One of the servers is one that I was taking out of service, but keeping the domain name. For this domain, I created a parking page and included 112 redirect .gov links on the page. I then indexed the page with GSA search Engine Ranker which sort of uses the same method. With the other page, it was a page within an active domain, but had no links from or to the page. It included the same 112 redirected links. I also indexed this page with GSA. I then created two high PR (8) blog profiles and included the first 52 redirect links on the above pages; each profile only allowed me to include 26 links.

After this I sat back watching Google Webmaster Tools and Ahrefs. Before I began this test I had no .gov back links. This image tells the story. Notice that Ahrefs gives the date.
