Obviously anchor text diversity is important now, and I've read loads of studies/experiments etc, but just wondering what the generally agreed percentages are in terms of direct keyword/generic/brand/long tail etc??

When I've looked at competitors, I don't really see them using generic anchors, though they do include many LSI keywords.

There's no such fixed amount of anchor diversity since there are many more factors which it depends on such as what type of links are you building and are they manually built or using automated tools?

I know there is know fixed amount. Just wondering what people are using.
im working on 20-30% keyword, and 70 % generic/lsi/brand, just wondering if anyone else has similar ideas.

I am always trying to keep keyword + raw urls(with keywords) density lower than 20-30%. The rest are generic anchors (40-50%) and LSI keywords(20-30%). But that depends on niche.

Matt Cutts is a fucktard and I suggest the majority to be raw urls of random structure and as little of keywords as you can.

A simple way I find is:
    20% anchor text
    20% LSI
    20% URL
    20% business name
    20% read more/click here etc

The one that your top competitors are using :)

But I always go for ~50% urls + site name. And very important IMHO, instead of blasting the shit out of it using the keywords you are targeting, use a dictiorary and grab some synonyms.

What you need to do is, take the first ten position sites, go to majesticseo and ahrefs, analyse all the ten websites, check what the percentage they going for, and work towards it.

    My general rule is
80 percent links goes to, brand, url, lsi and junk
And 20 percent anchor text distributed round the keywords.
    Goodluck and happy new year

For the search term you want to get ranked for, run the top 5 through ahrefs and investigate the anchors of their backlinks for the proper percentages for keyword, long tails, generic and naked url.

Because that answer can be applied to your question too. :)

But if you want a more conclusive answer, there are two:

    1. TEST - nothing works better than what works for you.
    2. IT VARIES - depending on the site/niche/competition, you may get away with more fishy stuff than you would otherwise. Or you may be on a way shorter leash than you would normally. Which brings us back to answer #1. :)
