What is the biggest misconception beginners have about?

Newcomers often focus on rankings, backlinks, or tools without understanding the bigger picture what misconception do you see most often among SEO beginners that slows their progress or creates unrealistic expectations?

Biggest one for me was thinking rankings would move every time I mode a change. Spent way too much time tweaking pages when the issue was just not giving things enough time.

Another misconception about SEO is that it is fast. Many newbies expect to achieve good results within several weeks and quickly switch strategies because they fail to produce expected results right away. In most cases, SEO is all about being persistent and having patience for it.

One I see a lot is beginners thinking SEO is one lever. Like “I built 20 links, why am I not page 1?” but the page is weak, intent is off, site looks thin, or Google just doesn’t trust the domain yet. They check keywords daily and forget the money is usually in boring stuff... better pages, cleaner internal links, covering the topic properly, and not changing strategy every week. Rankings are just the scoreboard, not the actual work.
