I've done some design and development for Magento before and it was a nightmare. This was way back when it was first released though. I've played around with a failed shopify store just months ago too. Shopify is easy to use and setup, but if I wanted power and flexibility, it doesn't even compare to Magento. I'm going to assume Magento has become a lot better since but it's still going to take more time to setup.
What is the best ecommerce platform?

I agree about WooCommerce. It gives you more freedom in terms of design and functionality. It is also much better to have your own original domain by buying a hosting service, so you have a good branding for your business.

Shopify is the shortest route to success.
I've heard a lot of horror stories about WooCommerce. It's appealing, but you have added risk from updates, etc. Wouldn't consider it unless you have a big budget and a dedicated dev on the team.

I've worked with WooCommerce, Magento, Prestashop and Shopify over the years. Shopify is hands down the easiest to use and most robust.

If you're looking for something which will not give you a pain in butt then you should consider Shopify .

I have experienced with Shopify. If you are talking about User friendly, Design, Security and other facts then Shopify is best. In the other hand it is bit costly. And it's theme and apps are also. But Shopify is good to me.
