What is Panda after?

I think they're increasing the weight of branding in their algorithms. I dunno if that's such a good thing though. :S
With all the top brands/sites at the top all the time, it feels like an oligopoly, aided by a monopoly. It doesn't get any better than this!

It seems that my website that was hit on 28 September dropped a lot in rankings for a couple of keywords this morning. A Panda update is going on really these days and it's not over, it might be over night.

Someone said it's a good thing. I think it's a good thing because there are tons of websites that have been hit and haven't moved, yet my website dropped like a rock. For most times, those that dropped, could get back on track or could get better off.

Any ideas? Is Panda going on again?

Right now i dont see any movements. But i guess Panda that happened 13/14 isnt over yet or will change. My rankings for inner pages (product names) are frozen. No link building moves them. And most of pages above me are just pure s***.

I'm seeing a lot of EMD with no value or scrapers outranking me.

I guess they have enough stats (Google) to de-rank them now.

yeah, even if its temporary it feels awful seeing all those sites with lower quality content and lower quality backlink outranking a site you've put your blood and sweat into.

It sucks, looks like big companies does not want to let average people make so much money on the web, big sites are up everywhere and smaller even quality sites went down. My adult blogs went down from first places to 3-4 page after huge amount of video from big tubes :(

Don't know why, but it seems my website that has been hit by Panda on 28 September (was hit again on 11 October), it's not hit again on 5 November.

Maybe it's not over and maybe it will grow back. Anyone seeing this pattern too?

Now I receive traffic for many keywords which are totally unrelated to my sites. Celebrity names, sport events, natural disasters... these keywords are nowhere to be found in my articles. This is some crazy shit! Is this how the new "freshness" algorithm works?

examples:
steve williams
there will be blood
california earthquake

Google is looking for content that keeps their users "happy"

Watch this short video

I've decided to dump all my old niches and focus on niches where I can write articles that people will enjoy and share with their friends.

1 of my "hobby" sites is ranking #1 and page 1 for many keyterms and have shot up the rankings since the last few panda updates. The site is built just like any of my other sites, except the content is something people actually share and tell their friends about. Now this site has gained 600% more traffic due to panda while my other sites have dropped 90% in traffic.

I don't know exactly how this all works, but I know where I will be focusing my time from now on.

Anyone recovered from Panda update?

Subdomains, subfolders worked for anyone? Any other ideas? Is funny that actually my Panda website that lost probably 95% of the income and traffic actually gets shared, facebook likes and tons of engagement. Emd and no content websites rank super high.

Another question - have you ever thought that your articles that lost rankings (badly) are the ones that people blocked the most? People block articles, but when they block the article they block the entire website with that article. What if we find out which articles were blocked the most and delete those. Probably our website loses the number of blocks and then we get it back. Someone tried that already?

Another thing I saw is that the articles for which I got a huge demand of traffic just before 28 September, are the ones that felt the most. So they got blocks from users probably. I should delete those, not the ones I thing they are thin. The ones that got blocks from users are thin, not the rest. The rest we shall improve.

Third, people talk about a certain number assigned to each website. What if it's about blocks? Matt Cutts said something about blocks on YCombinator.

What is to do?

I finally sorted things out.
Matt Cutts(google spam engineer) says the rankings is based on web page quality division and not based on their team. (Google picks pages that are indexed more strictly, you must take extra steps)
Ranking still possible but you must know how you have to be on a deep core level. To support this statement, look blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/368297-how-hit-page-1-any-keyword-diversify-follow-watch-rankings.html.

Could you rephrase that please:) i didnt really understand. Web page quality division??

Panda after links thats right, if you have more than double out bound links than inbound llinks then panda will report it.

I had a blog with 100 inbound and 232 out bound links, which ranked 1 and 2 for keywords but today its some where around page 7 and 8

What I am saying is that there are many division of Google. There is Web spam division, Web page quality division, Manual web page review division etc. Now After panda, I tried to find out what caused my rankings to decrease on 250 long tails.
So based on my readings, it is the Web page quality division that made adjustments last Oct 13.
What happened? Deindexing of pages that are of low quality content. LOW QUALITY CONTENT MEANS UNKNOWN FOR NOW but i have a clue that it is based on the amount of words (thereby the most affected BL are profile links which are very thin).
So what is the effect? If your backlinks are in those low quality pages, the number of Backlinks would decrease and majorly affect traffic.
So now people are using their traditional SEO techniques but the webpage quality division adjusted the algorithm so only quality backlinks are counted. They say their rankings have no improvements, yes because you have no quality backlinks.
SEO is still the same, but you must be aware of how to make your backlinks more juicy to force Google to index them. What i think about this is because of autoblogs, they have no place now since in order to rank for keywords, you gotta take extra steps.
How to make your backlinks more juicy? I gave an actual case study above, the thread is inside this same forum. Learn from it.

I think there are a lot of people who were hit who were not using profile links at all. For most of my sites I have no interest in profile links but will use them if other sites that are ranking well for my keyword are using them. Most of my effected sites had no profile links. Most of my links are in content links on pages with content related to my keyword. So my sites had the juicy backlinks but still lost ranking in this Panda.

It doesn't seem like anyone is any closer to figuring out what this is about and I don't think Matt Cutts is going to be the one to let us in on it.

It's like climbing a mountain.. And just when the peak is in sight you lose your footing and slide back down to the halfway point again...

Really fucking annoying because now I've got no incentive to continue with my daily link building routine..

I'm at the same Fucking point, this is the third time i've fallen down in 2 years, lost my motivation completely

Matt Cutts reported another Panda update on 17-18 November. This is the first time my Pandalized website (on 28 September) seen a recovery (a small one), but the traffic is about 45% bigger after this Panda update.

I am pretty sure the next big Panda update should follow around 3-4 December.

Ha, i noticed a few sites below me dropped the last couple of days so yeah, looks like another panda update hit some sites last couple of dates.

The much hyped Site Build It Panda 252 report is out. It was suppose to be the largest human powered research project. My disappointing take on it can be summed up very briefly.

Keep doing the white hat SBI strategy you should have been doing all along. Delete any spammy links to your site and any content that is even slightly similar to anything on the net.

I got the feeling Evoy was using the report to support his long standing opinions. I can't believe a paragraph of paraphrased content on an otherwise original page can cause a problem.

Good thing he didn't sell it bucause I would have asked for a refund.
