What is Panda after?

So, is it that our sites are penalized, or that others are given some sort of boost? Kinda funny too actually, some of my pages are the exact same rankings, but traffic is completely shot.. i dont understand that one quite yet.

Traffic down about 90-95%

The only hit I took was a site that I had added Amazon to since Panda 2.5. Traffic is down 60%

Data centers aren't in sync yet and some of the data centers are still showing pre-panda 2.6 results.

Just to chime in again with the latest Panda a few days ago. 2 sites, both on the same adsense ID, same theme, hit at same time.

Before latest Panda:
- Two sites with EMD, and those EMD keywords were at #1
- There were about one dozen secondary keywords on each site ranking on each of their own specific posts that were on page 1, and another dozen keywords on page 2.

After latest PAnda:
- EMD keywords are still both at or fluctuating around #1 with regular traffic to those keywords
- The dozen secondary keywords that were on page 1 are now between page 2 and page 5.
- The dozen secondary keywords that were on page 2 are now between page 6 and page 50.

Someone was commenting about branding and how EMD's are even more preferred than before. This would seem to support it. Any thoughts?
 
hahaha wow, I checked on some old domains I've had for years that are 5 pages of the worste content ever seen and some adsense ads slapped all over, complete MFA Spam. They were on like page 7 for years lool, with about 4 backlinks from guestbooks. Now they are on page 3.

So definately, for me, the spammy, utter crap RSSGM type sites are doing better than the WH/GH. Seen some convo about that and had to confirm it for myself.

Yeah, Now I have some hope that this will not last too long lool

Same with me I got a crappy site that only contains one article (it's EMD though) shot up to number 1 from nowhere.

unique content and high PR + authority backlink works for me.

Most people see traffic down because of loss of traffic through long tails.

Majority of my EMD sites dropped anywhere from 5-8 spots for their main keyword. A few of the sites did maintain their position and 1-2 of them moved up a few spots. It is weird that the ones that had new content added and recent backlinks dropped while a site with just 1 page of content jumped up. Totally weird stuff that is going on. Have to see if this sticks or they revert back.

ok, thats interesting right there. Because I go for long tail, with few backlinks type of things.....

IMHO this is pretty much what Panda does! They gather information about our bounce rate and push an update every few weeks.

I think it makes perfect sense that they would rely heavily on bounce rate, if they are striving for the best "user experience". Outside of a Google survey after EACH site visited, the best user metrics to see if users are "happy" at their disposal are bounce rate, number of pages visited and length of time on the site (and possibly +1 in the future).

I am sure backlinks and on page optimizations will still help, but what may differentiate the sites that Google wants to promote, are the sites that they can verify are indeed providing the experience that people are searching for...which may be why the bigger sites such as Amazon are getting tougher to beat as they are known quality.

It's all conjecture at this point...but if I was in charge and I wanted to provide the best user experience...I too would promote the sites that appear to make visitors "happiest", no matter how often their competitors with lower user metrics update their unique content or how many authoritative links they may possess. Its just logical.

Too bad bounce rate correlates jack crap on every site I run (and the high PR blog network I own) to SERP
Some sites with <20% bounce rate and 1000s of d0follow links are outranked by garbage websites with hundreds of directory links

Here's a strange observation.....might be important and give some sort of clue to more experienced members?

I got hit really bad last few days on all my 20 niche sites....not 'micro niche' as some sites have over 10,000 indexed pages...mostly hobby orientated long tail keywords...traffic down by about 60%.

I'm based in UK but about 65% of my traffic comes from USA.

So prior to latest update during my working day here in the UK I usually get about 40% of my adsense earnings....and during the night (When I'm sleeping and the USA is awake) the remaining 60% arrives......until 2 days ago!

So here's the strange thing.

My UK adsense earnings and traffic have not been effected at all....but my USA traffic has virtually disappeared.....along with my adsense revenue!

Any thoughts from you guys.....?

As I mentioned before, I think its logical for Google to base their rankings on user experience...but I would (and I am sure most of us) would prefer that we controlled our destinies through "hundreds of directory links" as you put it. :)
 
So do we just wait it out for now especially for sites that were ranking #1 and now on page 2 with virtually no traffic? These sites have unique content and all types of backlinks and was ranking #1-#2 for the past 8 months. Would building some backlinks like edu/gov links help to move them or that or any other type of links link web2.0/comments/articles/profile will have no effect for time being?

I just hate waiting and not being able to figure what to do get the site back up? I wish it was just a few spots that it dropped, but when they go from top 3 to page it is just about total loss of traffic.

Anyone doing anything for time being or waiting to see if things might change for the good again? I just don't get it how the site would drop that many spots because I know the other sites that were below did not do as much off-site SEO in the last year compared to my sites.

I've never been through one like this.. I was thinking I had the "hang of it", now all is lost.

With your point there, my paranoid mind was thinking, maybe it would be some sort of trap like that. Watch out for the sites now gaining links etc, updating lol..

But would they really do that? Screw over their whole system just to catch some people while taking out a shitload of good sites??

I'm just gonna ride this out I guess, and make some new ones...

Kind of weird though, its right at shopping season, and just the exact time that the weather has changed to cold weather here in the east.

EDIT: AND the fact that my crap trash site is bumped up massively in the rankings tells me, that things wont stay this way too long ;)

I noticed that for a keyword that I'm competing for the #1 site was dropped to #3 spot after the update and now after 3 days they are back to #1 again. My site was at #12 before the update and still at that spot. This #1 site is mix review and info site targeting a specific product with both amazon and adsense links. They have been at that #1 spot all this year and on 10/14 was the only time I saw the site not ranking #1 and it was like that until late last night when they moved back to #1.

So is there hope then for our sites if these sites are reverting back to their old positions and we just need to give our sites some time so that things work across all datacenters.

@zmoney: I am with you
I have been targeting an electronics-related niche and was surprised to find out many crappy sites including some never-heard-before article directories (with poorly-spun contents) got a huge boost and moved up to the first page, beating out other established sites.

This will only be temporary..
 
Can we please stop passing misinformation on how bounce rate is factored in with Panda....


There's NO WAY for google to measure your bounce rate. Even if they did, the sites with better bounce rates do not correlate with high rankings.
