What is Panda after?

Hello folks!


As you see, there is a new Panda rolling out as of yesterday and I'm pretty sure it's not finished.

Panda 2.5 - 28 October 2011 (as people reported losing traffic as of 22-26 October 2011)
Panda rollback - 4 and 9 October 2011 (big websites gained traffic again as of Search Metrics.
Panda 2.6?! - 13 October 2011 (I see serps moving as of 11 October 2011 and it's not over yet).

As I see Panda is after a few things:

- grammar? I don't think so. I've seen bad websites ranking 1-2 spot, so it might not be it.
- Panda seems to be site-wide and it doesn't matter what you do, it won't go away.
- Panda doesn't care about Adsense. I've seen Adsense and thin MFA sites ranking first and second place.
- Panda puts emphasis on brands and EMD. Lots and lots of emd now rankings on the first page.
- Panda seems to take more emphasis on old domains..
- bounce rate doesn't seem to matter YET. I've seen bad websites ranking and weren't penalized because they were EMD's and having links.


Panda seems to care of:

- duplicate/spun content. Let's say you write a nice article and someone duplicated it on a spam website. When you update your article, your article becames duplicate. If you have to many, Google punishes you.


Any other ideas?

I'm pretty sure Panda rolls out different portions of the web at once. So, it doesn't matter if you haven't been hit now, but still your website can be Pandalized in the future.

I think low quality 2.0s are next.
And I also think they are simply filtering out any value of low quality links. I think they gather them bit by bit and roll out a new update.

One of my competitors simply spun his content and posted to a bunch of crappy article sites. Article isn't more than 400 or 500 words max and yet all of them (6 in total) incl. the main money site dominates the whole of the first 10 results.

Now I'm sure Google updated the results once more on 13 October 2011.

Panda 2.6 was in October 13 2011. From what I see, Google Panda 2.6 was after some patterns that don't include grammar or links, but articles made for search engines. I might be wrong, but this is what I see.

It's also looking after new websites.. Ideas?

I am sorry but the dates seem very confusing... How we can say what hpnd on 28th october when today is just 14th october? Did you mean september?

Also what is EMD? you used the term in brands and EMD...

I think the OP meant september. EMD= Exact match domain.

On another note.. during early august, I created an exact match blogspot site, which incidentally shot to #1 between early-mid september and stood there for about a week or so and then dropped down to #14.

Would be nice to decipher what's going on with Google.

It seems that blogspot blogs and Youtube videos rule the internet nowadays, along with Android and other Google properties.

Maybe they consider blogspot sub-domains EMD or they just want to make more money?

Could be quite possible.. incl. other web 2.0 properties such as multiply, posterous and so on.

Off topic, I must note that.. in the recent days, when checking on Bing, blogspot blogs seem to rank far below than the rankings in Yahoo/Google.

On another note I don't see Wordpress subdomains in serps? Strange..

This thread should come with a disclaimer , some of this sounds true but there's no real way of knowing,as were not google. Thanks for your contribution but there's still to many variables to state what's working or not, there's methods still pwning big g every day

OP may be right, just seen a EMD without ANY backlinks rank above my site which has 1000s and that keyword in URL/Title/Tags

All my sites both big and small EMD and non EMD have lost rankings across many of their pages since lastnight.

Still got a few high earning pages at number 1 but most have dropped down to the lower part of page 1 or at worst page 2.

90% of the sites that have leapfrogged me are all big brands like amazon, tesco, wallmart etc.

Kinda sucks. Hopefully the update isn't finished yet and some things will shift back around. Kinda lost my motivation to do any work though today...

The update is not finished.

I think the updated will complete on 16 October. It takes a couple of days to complete the update, hopefully the things will be on our side this time.

damn this panda.. as soon as i get my rankings pumped up.. another panda comes in and kills the work I did in the past..
rt now i'm working on an e-m-d. took that from #80 to #34 for a very tough niche and now its in 70's again. wtf!

I can't believe this is the end of it.

EMD with one page on the entire website a 500 or 600 word article, can't get any thinner than it really, and has zero backlinks, is outranking me and every other serious competitor.

I'm seeing the same thing with all my sites. I had been improving pretty well the last 2 months and now the sites are back to their position before I did all the work to improve them. Hopefully that is a sign that they may revert back to their improved spots after things settle down.

It's like climbing a mountain.. And just when the peak is in sight you lose your footing and slide back down to the halfway point again...

Really fucking annoying because now I've got no incentive to continue with my daily link building routine..
