What is click distance?

Recently I read an ariticle saying one should keep the target page have a short click distance to homepage, because it may affect indexing and DA allocation. Wondering what does it exactly mean?

For instance, in my comprehension,
/cat/cat1/cat2/pageA/ has a longer click distance to the homepage than /cat/pageB/
it that right?

And if my page has clear breadcrumbs, like
home >cat >cat1 > cat2 >cat3 >pageA
does it mean there only needs one click to reach the homepage even though it has a full structure of url?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Actually, these are shortcut navigation behind the links. So when it clicks, open the appropriate page that it has. Also, Google likes these kinds of site navigation which helps to index as well.

These navigations in the URL shows only the information where you are. I think this has less effect than breadcrumb structure.

Click distance is basically the amount of clicks a user has to make to reach their goal. For example if you wanted someone to fill out a form, landing them on page a then making the click a link to page b so they could click to land on an app form would be a click distance of 3. In an ideal world you want 1 or 0

Click distance = Number of clicks it takes to get to a web page or document from the homepage of your site.

So, if your page A is 5 clicks from your homepage and page B is 1 click away, page B should obtain a higher Click Distance score in search engine algorithms.
