The best of the best
In my honest opinion, hosting is one of the few things you can't skimp out on.
Cheap Hosting is fine, but it has to be reputable, trusted and stable.

What kind of wordpress site are you hosting for?
Whats your traffic like, how much bandwidth/imps/ resources do you need monthly or even daily?
All that matters when choosing the right web hosting provider.
No need to pay $100 a month when $20 a month works.

Hostkoala if you are just starting out and it's a small project.

Else look for good vps deals on LEB.

Rocket.net is pricey but great option in terms of service, support, and performance.

Racknerd always has good VPS deals in budget range.

You definitely do not need a vps for beginning wordpress hosting, that will just make things difficult for you.

There are plenty of low cost wordpress hosting providers including:

ionos
bluehost
wordpress itself
wpengine
dreamhost...

and many others, just look around.

You can always upgrade if you need additional hard disk space, transfer bandwidth, ram or whatever.

I second host koala if you are on budget, roibox posted a coupon search hostkoala to get the coupon.
I am currently experimenting digital ocean vps, costs 7$ a month. Search google for free trial 200$ for 2 months currently going on.
Pretty easy now a days to install and run wordpress on it. There are few youtube video on how to.

Checked out all of your suggestions, thanks for them all. I went with hostkoala in the end, mainly based on the price. I had an issue and support sorted it within 5 mins, so happy with them so far. Everything else running smoothly, although there documentation is out of date

For a large WP site, far the best option is Hetzner cloud. They now have cloud hosting in USA. The only problem is Cpanel licence price, it is expensive. But you can use plesk instead.

Totally it is around 10 EUR/month.

For smaller sites, yearly option is NameCheap, i think this was 30 USD or something like that for unlimited domain hosting for a year. Works pretty good so far.
