You can say that about iphone too, was it revolutionary? It was nothing new, it's was not a first mobile phone, it's was not a first touchscreen device, not first device with OS, so it was not first smartphone by definition and etc. But... In some way , it was first.
So what that iphone uses "old" technology, but they did something that other companies didn't using those same "old" technologies. They made first smartphone that we could really call a smartphone.
The best in market then, Nokia released this flagman when iphone was already present :
