What has been your experience with nulled themes for wordpress?

I got hacked by using a nulled theme, after which I never used a nulled one. :D

Once bought a premade site build from a seller, site was hacked a month after completion. Seller had used nulled plugin....

Avoided like the plague since.

The last time I used a nulled theme was back in 2013.

I had over 40 websites hosted on the same shared hosting server, and one of those 40 websites was the one where I used the nulled theme on.

All went fine for the first couple of months, then suddenly, my server got wiped!! All 40 websites' data was gone forever without a trace.

And to make shit worse, all my WordPress websites got hacked probably a month before this incident with tons of sneaky doorway pages promoting fake Michael Kors, Louboutin, etc., with hundreds of thousands of spam links pointing to them.

Summary of what happened:
  • I lost all the data for 40 domains, with some domains having hundreds of pages of quality content. (I had no backups! Don't judge me. But I was able to retrieve everything via web archive and spend a good 500+ hours rebuilding the websites)
  • Domains got spammed to death, which eventually fked up my rankings (I sorted that out by disavowing the spam links and rebuilding quality links)
Verdict (What I learned the really hard way):
  • Don't use nulled themes! The risks are just not worth it.
  • Always, always, always take backups.

Most of the sellers who are selling pre-made sites for cheap are from third-world countries, and they try to cut costs even if it's necessary. After this experience, I always keep regular backups of everything. Sometimes, even if the theme is purchased, there could be a vulnerability in the plugins as well.

a lot of premium themes have free limited versions, that look very cool and are a great choice for someone who wants to start with no money
