If there is not any demand or search volume for the keywords in your topic, then how good is your article and where it ranks does not matter, you will not get visitors. If the keywords in your topics have to search volume and you rank on search engines for some keywords, the intent of the keywords matters.
Whatever steps or sources you use to find a topic, the next steps will to analyze a few things:
1) demand/search volume
2) competition
3) Search intent - for affiliate content, it should be buying intent, and for ad display sites, it is okay if the search intent is informational.
