what do you do when you're bored?

Watch videos about programming on YouTube or work on my house/property. Depends on the time or the weather.

I've honestly forgotten what it means and what it looks like when it's boring.

I haven't been bored for years, maybe a whole decade because I always push myself and I want to work, test, create...

Playing games is just a waste of time, all that time and all those hours you spend playing games you can use and start building something.

Life is short, you know...

Everything passes so quickly and if we play games anytime when we feel "bored" or anything else that people do when they are bored if it is not a creation but a pure waste of time, that just means people are lazy and they don't want to work.

I'm not talking about you OP but in general, it's like that.

Why would I work on something when I could just play CS or FIFA or LOL and kill that time...

I guess all this goes with age, when you're young you don't think that way.

Nothing, it's a great skill.. and I have mastered it

You should never be "bored", and if yes - go and make some $$$.
Do not waste your time.

I agree with your opinions on life.

But - I just hate how people assume others fun to be boring or time loss. How can you? There is a man who loves repairing old stuff, there is a man who loves walking his dog and there is a man who loves headshots in Counter-Strike let's say.

1 - He loves the feeling when the job is done and the fresh look of the thing and that makes him happy
2 - He loves his dog, fresh air and calm street/park walking and that makes him happy
3 - He loves the technology of experiencing the game he would never in real life and also the stats makes him happy

Where's the difference between them? NONE

If you would say they all can work on something more valuable, no we are not robots and only few special ones can work 24/7 and that means we all do have some kind of free time. All three men mentioned are enjoying their free time in their way.

Life is short to judge other activities. No offense mate.

I realised at 25-26 that life is really short and playing games is a waste of time except if you do it with your friends and beers a saturday evening.

Couch gaming is fun as hell and life is short so you better make it fun because those memories are the ones you remember.

unfortunately playing Fortnite when I'm bored and getting even border lol

No offense ;) All good and I love what you said, honestly...

What I wanted to say is that if we let boredom kill us, and literally every time we feel bored the first thing we do is play games, it becomes a habit, right?

Also, "fun" is something totally different from being bored, which is the case with this thread, if OP said "I love playing games" without "what do you do when you're bored" I would not even bother replying.

I mean... This is a deep topic to go into all the details of what I wanted to say, so I will try to shorten it so that you can understand my point.

It's okay if you do all this while you're a kid, of course, you don't have so many obligations, you don't have to pay bills, you don't have your family, you don't have kids, etc...

I meant older people who do it in their 30s and 40s and even after their 50s, one whole generation of mine live in that world of, "doing nothing, it's just boring" and everyone else and everything is to blame for their failures in lives instead of themselves if you understand what I'm trying to say here...

Of course, everyone is doing what they think is best and right, but...

I can't understand those older people who have their families and who have a million problems every day and don't want to work and fix at least some %, but will rather play games all day long, instead of spending all that time on games, or at least half of their time trying to solve some problems or in creating a better life.

That was my point...

If people allow themselves to be "bored" all the time and if they start playing CS at the age of 40 every time they feel "bored", instead of taking a child to school, you know, those kinds of things... That's a problem (that's what I was typing about).

Again, being bored and having fun are different things.

Anyway, good point, and I understand what you want to say.

I realised at 25-26 that life is really short and playing games is a waste of time except if you do it with your friends and beers a saturday evening.

Couch gaming is fun as hell and life is short so you better make it fun because those memories are the ones you remember.

Same here, same age...

When you are younger, of course, I use to play games for years, just amazing memories...

Damn, I used to run a PS club in my country back in 1998/99/00!

All that is alright when you are young but, once you cross 25 - 30+ when life starts kicking our asses when people start blaming everyone else around them because they are just "bored"... That is a huge problem.

Well it's true I absolutely missed the point in your post. Apologies!

I may be just too sensitive recently :D at least I told the world I don't like when people judge others by their own tastes

I'm 30, still playing like 30 minutes a day on average, but it really is just for fun, not to kill boredom

I try not to get "bored" per say, but if I've already accomplished what I set out to do on any given day I'll spend time reading up on new digital marketing strategies/methods that pertain to whatever I'm working on... There's always new things to learn in this game. On weekends I'll go out, usually with my girlfriend or even alone just to keep my social skills sharp.

I watch K dramas. I am in love with korean girls nowadays.

I think the better question for most of us is "what do you enjoy doing with your free time?" as opposed to "what do you do when you're bored?"

I agree with the folks who put forth the postulation that there's never really an excuse to be truly bored or to waste one's time on vapid bullshit (like arguing about politics on the internet or spending hours a day on your fantasy sports team). This applies especially to those people who aren't where they want to be in life and who make excuses for why instead of simply working to improve their situation.

For me, there are 4 macroscopic areas of my life that I want to always be improving at:
  1. Physical - This includes working out, being involved in a sport, eating quality foods, going for walks, getting enough sleep, etc.
  2. Financial - Growing my businesses and always looking for ways to make more money.
  3. Intellectual - Studying fields I'm interested in and constantly educating myself (books, articles, videos, podcasts, forums, courses, conferences, and whatever else). This would include not only studying business, nutrition, exercise science, and any subject that directly benefits those other areas of importance in my life, but also things that I simply find interesting and want to learn more about for my own enjoyment.
  4. Social/relationships - Admittedly, this is my lowest priority out of the 4. I'm not really a family person at all, I have no desire to ever have kids or get married, and for the most part I enjoy being alone. However, I do think having a quality social circle is important, even if it's just a handful of close friends and a loyal girlfriend who's on the same page as me with what we want out of life.
So between all of those pursuits, there's always something productive I can be doing. And because I enjoy progressing in all of them, I should rarely ever feel bored or like I need to take a break. If I'm burnt out on work, I can hit the gym. If I'm too sore and need a recovery day, I can relax and read a book or go for a walk and listen to a podcast or audio book.
