Trying to figure out something…

Every time I sit down to work, I start focused. Then somehow, end up doing completely random stuff 20–30 mins later.

For me, it’s usually overthinking instead of executing, checking stats again and again, and scrolling forums/social media.

Curious what it is for you guys. What’s the one thing that distracts you the most when you’re supposed to be working?

Homies sending reels !
I can’t really ignore it because they’re way too relatable. Then I have to send one back… and the cycle continues. :weep: :weep:

It usually comes from picking up my phone... I don’t necessarily have to get a notification to get distracted.

I can deliberately pick up the phone tocheck something real' quick and then I end up doing a whole lot of other things : )

Replying to messages or checking sports news on X

Nothing. I login to bhw to check messages etc.

The solution is really simple.

You get addicted because you use.

Don't open X. Don't post on X. Don't reply. Don't post on fb. Don't read fb. Don't read news sites. Don't open any of them.

Focus on your work, and only your work.

After about 5 days of not touching any social media/news you won't crave it. In fact, it'll seem dull. Your brain will crave your work.

The first thing I think about when I wake is the SaaS I'm building. I open up claude code and I start working on it. I read debug logs and plan out new fixes/improvements.

My dopamine comes from improving my software.

You've trained your brain to get dopamine from scrolling instead of checking tasks off your todo for the day/week.

My laws of success from 7 years ago: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/b...ow-to-make-money-succeed-in-business.1157313/

Nothing's changed. I still do this.

If you have your plan laid out like this then it's much easier to focus on what matters.

You drift because you haven't planned.

When you go into a job, your boss has given you work and you just do it. In your own business when you wake up and start your day you don't have a clear path, so your brain has nothing to latch on to.

I don't have time to drift. I know exactly what I have to do today, this week, this month, next month.

I just work until each thing is solved and move onto the next. This is the ONLY way you can succeed as your own boss.

You separate manager/operator. The manager plans and decides what needs doing and in what order, and the operator executes. You switch between these 2 modes. Normal people just stay in operator mode so they thrive in jobs and fail in their own business.

I also wrote a follow-up article along the same lines in 2022 - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/how-to-make-a-3-to-5-year-plan-for-success.1450319/

This too the same week - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/h...-2023-for-real-only-thing-that-works.1448868/

All along the same lines of the focus/say no/yearly, quarterly, weekly, daily plans

The saying no thing is also only needed when you have addictions. Once you naturally get into a flow state you won't need to say no. You will get irritated by anything that distracts you from your mission.

Now for me.. Back to my mission. codex is finished my refactor to handle global limits and parallel work smoothly for my SaaS

For me it’s checking stats too early because it messes up focus and makes you overthink small results. Best fix is just setting a fixed time later in the day so you don’t keep refreshing all the time.

It's mostly reels scrolling for me. I just open insta randomly and start watching reels that ruin my work hours.

Or i open BH lounge and reply under a thread about what distracts me

I usually get a lot of work done when I do decide to start. Before getting started is where the delays and distractions come in and admittedly I'm fairly easily side-tracked by what I'm reading or watching. So yeah, nothing really distracts my while working. It's the leadup to that which is my issue (and in typical fashion, it's video essays or reading articles)...

For me it’s multitasking , I switch to another task just for a minute and somehow forget the first one even existed

Mostly my phone... I really should keep it in another room while working

Notifications, any type of media, people contacting you.

Even came to the point to put my phone outside of the room or into an airplane mode, if one needs an uninterrupted, proper focus.

i keep checking songs and phone notifications
