What are the top techniques for SEO in 2020?
Really nothing has changed. It's no different - at all - than it was years ago. You just have to do the proper things which get you indexed, ranked, etc. with whatever top techniques there are at the time (which is the thing where nothing has changed in the last 10+ years).

SEO techniques are

Understand Your Site's Core Web Vitals
Optimize for Google Passage Ranking
Focus on Featured Snippets
Learn the EAT Principle
Support Long-Tail Keyword Phrases
Update Old Content
Focus on User Experience
Whats EAT

Secret Russian groups use satanic rituals to guarantee overnight rankings. You need to use virgin blood on your second tier though.
Im glad people on the internet is looking Yandex more. Im doing the same thing with checking out the SEO and sites there. So far there are a lot of weird sites and good results.

To think that there's no differences is just false. In 2020, I could rank websites solely with web 2.0's. Expired Tumblr blogs & a few others. Now, that's rarely the case.

The top techniques change over time and that's the difference. What's good to use now is:

- Guest posts.
- Manual outreach.
- Trusted PBN links.
- Niche relevant links.

Indexing hasn't really been a problem for me as of late, but I've seen a lot of people complaining about it. Meaning things are changing.

Mostly focus on meta details, update the content and also find broken links
create some unique content and share on social media

You can still use Tumblr. Its actually better (than ever) now, probably since Yahoo took over the platform.

Tumblr used to be bad for optimising for SEO onsite, but it has improved and can rank decently now (the blog)
Ive had no issues with Tumblr backlinks recently. I even made a mistake and had it link from Tumblr over 70 times. The sites did fine and the blog still functions as a backlink for the site and in a way that I really like, personally.
This is probably the only thing you've done, and I have done too.

Maybe your "few others" are expired domains, shell wordpress sites, etc. but I never did those. I never liked the expired domains buying side and in my opinion WP gives you so, so much SEO, so easily.
The technique to SEO hasnt changed at all in the last decade or more. You can do anything you want, so long as you do it properly (maybe you would put it as to "adapt") - absolutely anything and that hasnt changed at all.

You mean since 2013 when they bought it? Perhaps they improved upon some things considering they brought a marketing budget, however, one of their biggest mistakes was the NSFW ban at the end of 2018.

They lost a lot of users from that.

As for what I've done, I've had every link type imaginable. I've done a vast amount of tests over the years.

To say "nothing has changed" in SEO is just...I can't even begin to say how wrong that is. Saying that you can do anything you want and you just need to do it properly do not go hand-in-hand in SEO. Maybe you're not expressing that correctly & mean something else? Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean?
