What are some ways to decrease bounce rate?

Right now I need to figure out a way to drop my website's bounce rate from 70%. I'm only benefiting from 35% of my traffic right now. I was thinking of completely re designing the site and picking a new theme, right now it's just a wall of text that is nicely spaced out with some pictures, I think I need just a few bullet points and a nice layout. Anyone have good theme recommendations, tips or advice on how to drop bounce rate and get viewers interested in clicking my CPA links?

i don't know what your site is about, to lower bounce rate you need interesting content, easy to use navigation and no clutter. often popups and excessive ads are a turn off as they can be slow to load. you can also buy targeted traffic, i got a site bounce rate from 89% down to 30 odd % by using targeted traffic
 
1. Jack people who click the back button and lead them to another page on your site.
2. Make multi page posts so that people are forced to click the next page to read more.

That should reduce your bounce rate dramatically.
 
It's hard to say without seeing your site, but here are a few tips.

1. Make sure your navigation and sections of your site are easy to find.
2. Link to inner pages from your homepage (if it's an article)
3. Decrease spammy advertising (ie too many ads, popups etc)
4. Obviously it goes without saying to have interesting/well written content.

Reminds me on one of our sites. Walls of text irritate users. People are lazy. OMG, so much to read, so little time, click, gone. Spice it up a little, try to present important facts with graphics, use screenshots if it fits, use bullet points, use bold for important stuff. Do you personally read 2000 words? No, you skim them. Skimming is what everybody does and if people like it, they may bookmark it and read the whole thing in detail.

All very good points here. Yeah I have like around 1500 words on the front page. I'm gonna try to mix it up.. maybe cut it down to 500 or 1000 words but have the main page a couple bullet points, some pictures and of course my call to action. Trying to make the first thing the visitor sees as something worthwhile to click on for more.
 
i'm using zero bounce rate plugin. you can check it on the internet.

The best way what i always look after is to add high quality videos or images on your website else add one live chat option.
 
Bounce rate is caused by the following:

1. People clicking on SERPs but landing on a page which is not relevant to what they are trying to find.
2. Bad design, confusing layouts, annoying elements like adverts or pop ups or auto play videos... if you have any of this nonsense sort it out.

As for number 1, perhaps use web master tools to see what results you're getting clicks for and on what pages. Make sure the user can find what they want.
 
Why worry about bounce rate... Try to increase your time on site and you are fine! Needlessly decreasing your bounce rate by useless interaction/linking will not help your site in the long rate. it only will create a pretty report no1 really cares about.

70 percent bounce rate for a content site is pretty normal, if not good.

*your site needs to load fast, be available, be targeted and not look spammy. These kind of bounces should be taken care off ;-)

What's the point of using a plugin it's same as putting another page in an iframe you're just fooling yourself.
Make interesting and relevant content and the reader will stick.
 
Simple, use videos that are longer than 5 minutes, that will take care of your bouncerate
