What Am I doing wrong? Help to improve an existing website

Hi,
I have a travel article website I created in 2011. Its almost 2.5 years now. Its called Smarttravelinfo I started as a hobby and I want to improve it. I am a travel junkie and I have been to over 60 countries in the world and speak 3 languages. I did work really hard everyday to improve it. It has a PR 3 and Alexa Ranking about 250.000. I started the ranking around 19 million. I wanted to improve the PR and the Alexa. I need help I guess. It has over 1600 Travel articles with written by over 300 travel bloggers and travel journalists. And its quite popular but it doesn't seem to move at all. People seem to read it and appreciate it and thats all. I have over 1000 fb fan base but its just a fan base right?

Any ideas to improve it and get some Quality users to read articles.
After almost 3 years, I guess I am out of solutions and need some help. Any suggestions, any contact and any info would be greatly appreciated.

use twitter,tumblr, get social one by one, and find the best directories for you, send your link with a nice letter to travel agents, and OFF line mags if you haven't done yet.

I have been in more country's as you ,-)) use any contacts you might have,or remember where you went and have visited - write them a letter that they might advertise on your site........

Since you have so much high quality I would pick some keywords and start a tiered link building campaign.

Your site is a bit bulky, takes time to load. I would try optimizing the images of the slider for faster load times. Use google pagespeed tool to analyze your site.
And some SEO will definitely do you good.
