What about the basics?

This Offline marketing section of BHW is great, I see lots of great discussions about getting business and making money.

Infact if I go to the download section I see probably dozens of items to DL about offline client getting... but what about the basics?

But since some people are still struggling with getting an SEO or web design business off the ground, let's maybe mention one of the most basic things you can do.... Join your local Chamber of Commerce.

I was against joining mine for the longest time because I really didn't like the idea of the "Good 'Ol Boys Club" but in many smaller areas (like mine) that is the only way to get business. You need the endorsement of your peers.

So for those of you who haven't had much luck with the fliers, direct mail, or any other "offline tactic" - consider joining a group like your Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, or BNI group.

Great source for networking if you can put up with self rightious,
pompous knobs. But that's just my experience.

I agree... there are a fair amount of "big shots" that are members but you can use them to your advantage if you get in with one you get in with all.

Kind of like selling door to door in a neighborhood... if some respected homeowner likes what you have and buys it, the rest will follow.

You can also get the "guru effect" or guilt by association.

If you know and are seen with the local big wigs, you immediately have the ear of other less connected members of the community.
