Weird trick to check if Google has penalized a domain

it seems I'm late to the party...I just check 8 of my sites and got an error for each.

I just get a page does not exist. Am i doing it right? Just typing it in the addressbar?
 
If a website is banned in Google the site will not even rank for its own name.

Well, now that sucks, seems they should want you to know if you are banned so you could fix whatever the issue might be.

it's funny that if you google the hyves + google you will find posts written within the past two days related to this method...and it doesn't even work anymore lol....gotta love a bandwagon!!
 
thought i can tell if my domain really get ban since i was having pr3 and now my 2 sites show pr0 for a few months already =(
 
Unfortunately google fixed this so it's probably another word now :)

Unfortunately this never worked on sites that had wildcard subdomains...
