Weird trick to check if Google has penalized a domain

This probably won't last for long, but it's uses are obvious.

Apparently, you can check if Google has penalized a domain or not by simply adding the word hyves as a subdomain and then checking the PageRank of that subdomain.

IE: hxxp://hyves.digg.com/ = PR7

Now there's 3 possible PR scores you can have, and each mean a different thing.

PR7 means that the domain is perfectly fine
PR4 means that the domain got penalized by Google
PR0 means that the domain got banned in Google


So far all my domains are PR7. I have yet to find any PR4 or PR0. If you guys find any of those results, please share.

i have a PR7 too... sweet

Kinda weird though, I just typed in some ecom stores I work for and they came back with errors.

Well, the domain doesn't exist, so you're going to get an error. Or are you referring to an error with the Page Rank?

coming up PR4 for me

One of my sites is PR4 with this 'trick'..

I actually noticed a fall in my PR some time ago (PR3 became PR0)..

How can I now actually see why I'm penalized and fix the problem?

That is a nice little trick. I wonder how long it will be though before they catch the loophole and shut it down. Oh well, better use it while I can.

Interesting one of my sites dropped about 50 places a couple of months ago, I presumed they'd penalised me for something, but obviously not as it's getting a pr7.

Ohwell I might have to try and get it ranking a bit better then.

Does not seem to work anyway, i got a domain come up PR4 but the real site is PR7 with PR6 subpages and it ranks for some ultra-competative keywords and phrases.
