Weird SERP activity

Anyone notice some weird SERP activity in the last 24 hours?

One of my inner pages specifically targeted for a certain long-tail keyword ranked on page 2 about 3 - 4 days ago. This morning, I checked it again and it just disappeared... can't even find it up until page 20... However, now my home page is ranking on page 3.

Haven't done anything "blackhat" related on this site though, so I'm dead certain it's not a penalty.

Really hope this is the case. Didn't mention this in the original post, but my home page has never ranked for that long-tail keyword, now it overtook an inner-page and the inner-page is just MIA on the SERP's.
How sure are you this is a "google dance" though? What other possible reasons could this have?

I think there is a dance going on too. I have seen a traffic dip over the past 24 hours. Nothing too concerned about.

In my niche one page is taking 2 spots...exactly the same page, weirdest thing I ever saw in the SERPS.

Yeah, spread the links over a duration and not at the same time, and you should be ok

Happened the same thing for me. But I bought some backlinks, so I expected that. My homepage still #3 on google for another keyword... so lets see

Can't say we have noticed anything out of the ordinary today. In fact I've not noticed much from this supposed big scale shake up the mobile optimize update was supposed to cause!

maybe your home page is too similar to the page you want to rank, in terms of optimization. build more links to the inner page internally, externally, or both. you may also want to change some things on page for the home page to make it obvious which one is more relevant to the query, for the future.
