Weird bouncing in SERPs

I have this weird problem for some of my main keyword pages (mostly my 2nd tier pages thankfully). The pages will sit around the top 5 on page 1 for a day, then completely disappear for a day or 2, then come right back where they were before. This has happened for a while now (my site is about 9 months old, but I have really noticed it the past couple of months since I have really gained in the SERPs). Before I thought this was normal behavior and "getting out of the sandbox".

The weird thing is that this does not happen on pages where I am targeting more difficult/ higher search volume keywords. They will just sit on the front page of Google and not move. But if the keywords are less difficult and lower search volume (sometimes I am the only person targeting this keyword), then this weird bouncing in the SERPs will most likely happen.

I have tried things like lowering keyword density, making the posts longer, working on link building for the pages, etc. I have not used any PBNs or 3rd party SEO services. This has happened on money pages and informational only pages alike. I only monetize through affiliate links, no banner ads, etc.

Any idea of what is going on?

There's a dance going on, lots of threads about it. They're trying to refresh their index.

Yeah, and I have greatly benefited from all of the recent updates. But this seems like something different. Especially since this is something not sitewide and there really is no off-page or on-page difference between the pages that get affected and those that don't (besides the ones that do being lower difficulty).

Give it some time. All Google's updates are very slow lately. Weeks, not days. It'll stabilize.

Maybe you should not get so worked up. Wait it out, OP.

Samething here, the dance is really weird. Some keys get to page 2, after 2 days it disappear and come back couple days later.

There's been a movement in SERPs lately, it's not easy to understand Google algo because there maybe tweaks made daily unannounced.

Same here, one hell of a dance going on!

Exact same thing going on as you OP. Dancing from position 12 -> N/A -> 12 -> N/A etc.

i dropped on all kws but im 99% sure thats offpage overoptimization and im fixing it.

Can be a number of reasons. Dance, sure. Can also be that your site experiences abnormal/frequent downtimes, there are tools/plugins that can email you as soon as your site cant be accessed. The other reason can be manual reviews. Also try and have a look at the top 3 stable results, what meta tags are they using, their site structure, content, etc. If the site is new it's probably just your standard google dance as people above say. If it's an older site, just keep investigating but don't alter your link building too much just yet, you don't want to flag some weird behavior on the big G's side

One of my site featuring many keywords on page 1 were out for 10 days almost but on the 11th one they are back but I suffered loss in Adsense :( as traffic went =((
So I guess, you should also wait for a while
