It's not dead, it's just not worth the effort for some people, as everything got significantly harder. Whether you get hit or not by an update is almost a coinflip regardless of anything.

All comes down to ROI. If you can't get positive returns, your money are better spent elsewhere. I think this industry has maybe 5 to 10 years until it gets picked apart by AI, but that's for a different discussion.
 
We keep hearing that every year.
I personally quit blogging because of lack of control. I like to be in control of my ventures. But there are people who are still killing it. But it will keep getting more difficult.
 
I never thought that, Because there are plenty of ways to grow a business nowadays. I listen & read so many successful stories in this forum. Better to avoid the person you are negatively influencing you.

nothing is ever truly dead
 
It seems to me that you can still earn money on websites for a long time. And many of our partners earn good money. Therefore, they are definitely not dead.

Perhaps your friends have found another way to earn money and are selling their websites to invest money in a new project)
 
There are sections of the affiliate/niche site/content marketing/whatever-you-want-to-call-it industry that will quit seemingly with every Google update. This is usually because they want a blueprint to follow that guarantees a positive ROI. Such blueprints don't tend to exist in SEO, and if they do they're extremely broad and not really in-depth.
 
In some niches, it's relatively harder to stay at the top. It is what it is.
SEO isn't over yet
 
Ya that's what I'm thinking. Running a blog is an big project honestly, with targeting every keyword, content, optimize, backlinks...

I can understand how it gets harder as time goes on.

I think Google is the best partner, any way to get adsense you will make money.
 
Things got harder for sure,
Results are more random,
Google made a chaos for many webmasters, they even admitted having many bugs the last year or so,

You can't expect to fully rank,
Even while using the best content and links out there, you can end up with poor ROI,

I believe relying on a single domain/website for SEO is not really wise choice as it used to be a few years ago,
Especially for someone with limited budget and relying for it as the main income source,
Having 2-3 websites with solid approach is more secure, you'll have better chances for 1 over the others at least,

SEO is still profitable for sure,
You have just to put some more work and be more patient about results

there's no such hidden ad networks that will make you x10 of what you're currently making,
probably in some very specific niches, but not for the majority of them,

you're be really lucky to X2-3 of what AdSense offers with some other network,
it's all about the traffic volume and quality of the niche and geo you're targeting

its not true industry is alive and will live long till doomsday
 
People are saying that the website industry is dying, but that's not entirely true. Some folks are selling their websites for personal reasons, but overall, there are still chances for success in the industry.
 
Nope, that's not true , websites are not dead . Websites continue to be relevant and functional. Some misinformation or individual experiences may contribute to such rumors, but it will not make any changes in the growth of the industry.
 
There is a lot of information out there, a lot of it is bad because people assume. I remember doing courses and hearing conflicting things. Best is to test things. Everything will get more competitive over time, after all there is limited resources and billions of mouths to feed that are actively multiplying.
