Hey guys I'm basically a newbie with building websites. I need some advice. A friend and I are going to start an offline business selling goods. So we obviously want to have a website for our new company. I've been reading a lot about startup websites like wix. Do you recommend wix? Or another one?

Thanks!

I prefer WP with woocommerce. You can get a nice theme for it from themeforest.

As the guy above me said, you're probably better off with Wordpress, but it will cost more in order to get a domain and hosting. The cost is worth it though and it isn't very expensive. Look at bluehost, you get a free domain if you purchase hosting through them.

Get yourself a domain for few bucks with all the domain coupons floating around everyday.. Get some cheap hosting for few bucks again and install yourself Wordpress. There are tons of free themes, plugins and etc..

what you will think about some offline business if he give you a business card on which you see their site is hosted for free?

yeah I agree with the other posters who said wordpress.

Don't bother with something like Wix. Go with what other people said and start off with your own domain name + hosting and Wordpress. Wordpress guides you along in the process and it's quite easy.

I would suggest that if you do buy a domain name that you don't buy the domain through your host. I've heard too many stories of the host company using it, when the renewal time comes, as a bargaining chip for your business and sometimes even charging you crazy amounts to keep the domain name.

Personally I recommend getting your domain from somewhere else then your host provider. Also, I agree on using WP

I vote for WP + ThemeForest as well - you will be taken more seriously if your website looks professionally designed!

So I'm in between using a Wordpress site or a website builder i.e squarespace.com, webs.com etc.

I've never built a site or wordpress before. What do you guys recommend? Wix is def out of the question because I investigated and I read some horrible reviews. Thanks!

Wix is not bad especially if your not comfortable using wordpress and you want something easy to manage.

Wordpress is your best bet. It'll have a slight learning curve, but BHW has everything you'll need to get it done.

Go with Wordpress! Those website builders will hurt you more than it will help you.

Wordpress is really to install and use. There is also a big user base, so I don't think you'll have any trouble.

I would suggest wordpress based wix sites are not the best choice. If you in usa you can get dot com for 99cents at godaddy otherwise $3 for rest of the world. I would highly recommend hostgator for hosting

I am in the U.S.. Why is wordpress better than sites like wix, squarespace, weebly etc?

My vote goes with wordpress, You can easily choose themes and install plugins and get social shares. All at one place.

wordpress it more easier than other sites ( as far as I know because I'm currently using wordpress). Though its costly, its still worth it specially when you are into SEO.

SHOPIFY. if your doing e-commerce I wholeheartedly recomend them for most all aspects.

Why not be the middle name to an original site. I like to find good designers that can do PSD and then I pay to have it converted to html. I may spend 200 on a new site and sell it for 400 or 500. Now it's been a while since I middle man, but I do know some folks will feel cheated if the site is a free platform they essentially could've used directly themselves, so just be careful.

As for website starters, wordpress is much easier to use and manage. You don't have to be a techie person to be able to work with wordpress.
