Hey Mark, full stack developer here, on-page SEO are the elements in your website, in simple terms, it is how you have made your website for search engines, to know what your website is about, off-page SEO, is if your website is mentioned in other reputable websites or blogs, getting mentioned even without links, backlinks, reviews from google business, searches of your website and many more.

i think on-page seo refers to the content itself, and off-page seo refers to code-related seo, such as having a proper sitemap.xml, tags on html, no errors on web console...

On-page SEO focuses on the content of your website. This includes how many H1 headings you have, your meta title and description, the internal linking between pages, the keywords used in your content, and the overall word count, all of which help your webpage rank higher on search engines. Off-page SEO refers to the actions you take outside your website, such as listing your business on directories, posting on social media with links back to your site, and building backlinks that help search engines crawl and trust your website.

You should always start with On-Page SEO. There is no point in building high-quality backlinks (Off-Page) if your website is slow, confusing, or has poor content. A solid On-Page foundation makes your Off-Page efforts much more effective.
