Website dropping in rank, help

So, I have a one page self hosted wordpress blog. I have recently started to build backlinks and all. All backlinks are pointing to site url mydomain.com, and this is also where my main article is displayed. (btw domain is 10days old)

Everything went well and my site reached #23 after a few days.
This is how my site link in google serps was shown:

-My article headline
-description
-mydomain.com

The next day it reached #19, but the following day it was sitting at #78.

My site was now shown like this:

-My article headline
-article-description
-mydomain.com/my-article-headline

By using the direct link to the article (you know where wordpress takes you if you click on the article headline), and I have no backlinks pointing to this url, so I guess that explains the drop in rankings.

The next day it was back in top20 again as mydomain.com, and today - drop in ranks and shown as mydomain.com/my-article-headline .again

Why is google toggling my sitelink like that? It is not a dance, right?

I have seen threads claiming that google tries to rank subpages rather then homepages, for relevancy. Are there any truth in this?

Do you think the link switch was made because my site was getting closer to top10, and google found it more natural to link direct to article, rather then homepage?

What is going on`? Any help is very appreciated.

I guess you should stick to what you were doing i.e. backlinking you may increase the numbers on high PR sites.Results may take time but you gotta hold on.

Well I have the same problem with Alexa Rankings...rank dropping without any change in the number of visitors!! Anyone have any idea of this???

While increasing no. of backlinks you should also update your website regularly.

How often do you update your site? Sometimes PR can fall for not updating the site for a long time.

Better go for the modification of the content of your web site.Make the contents more qualitative. You can also try the Off page optimization techniques to get back link from the high PR sites.

Ok, I will get on that, but what about the toggling between the indexed urls? Have any of you experienced that? I get that a domain might dance around in ranks because it is new, but the indexed url should stay the same, right?

Am I wrong in thinking that this is not the common google dance?

My site dropped in ranks when google replaced the homepage link with the direct link to article, instead. And since I have no backlinks pointing to that link, it is only logical to move backwards.

Do you think putting a noindex tag for /posts could help? Would that affect the same content on the homepage (which is the same)?

Could this be solved by adding a preferred url in my google sitemap? Does anyone know how to do that? I have done some research but could not find anything.

Yes, you have more people coming to the site without the alexa toolbar installed.

The site was 10 days old. Patience, there is no get rich quick scheme. I have had sites appear on page 1 within 24 hours only to drop to 200+ after the G pulled its head out of its ass.
