Hey there,

I am putting together a new project which I want a website for.

The main website will have a county TLD and the com.

The main thrust of the website is to promote Apps but I want to niche down from there into some specific areas as well as offer website design, graphics etc etc to my business clients.

I'm looking at some very nice one page parallax wordpress themes from Themeforest to showcase what we do.

M question is should I use a subdomain, subfolder or a new domain for the niche areas or just have these areas as pages on the website?

Im no expert but in the 100's of sites that i have designed/developed i use folders for everything and subdomains only if there is a major change in content. But i generally prefer to use subdomains.
 
Hello, Mostly all major sites like these use sub domains. You should go for it. Also its easy to use and configure.
 
Whilst a subdomain will look nicer, a subfolder would be my choice here. Mainly because they will enjoy all the possible the Pagerank and Domain Authority juice and everything from the main domain. A category in other words.
 
What's your concern: organizational or SEO impact? In any case the SEO impact is minimal as compared to other factors that will drive SERP.
 
Guys, I will bring this up because I'm interested too.

I'm building a magazine out of my corporate website and I'm not sure whether to go for:

mywebsite.com/mag
mag.mywebsite.com

I like the subdomain much more (after all, it seems that all big websites have opted for this)

My concerns are mainly for SEO.
 
Web design and SEO are the main things in any site. These are very important for the developing of any site.
 
subdomains and subfolders are given equal votes i think but still, sub folders are the preferred,
 
Just as an internet user, I avoid clicking on subdomains, mostly because of you guys! Haha, but it depends on how well known your name is news.newyorktimes is a lot more legitimate than mag.styles if you see what I mean.
 
if SEO matter to you then go for subfolder. Subdomains are considered different domains. If you want to track traffic on Google Analytics, you need to go through more complicated steps to tell them that your subdomain and main domain are the same properties. For subfolders, you need not go through those steps and it's recognized as the same website/domain.
 
Another option would be to set up a separate website for each service: Site 1 (Apps) and Site 2 (Website Design/Graphics).

However, if you really want to keep it all on one domain, I would suggest sub folder.
 
Subdomain if you would like to have it like relatively different site to the main one, and folder if its all to be a part of the same big thing.
