Web Interfaces vs Traditional Executables

I'm more or less new to this SEO / IM game. I've read quite a few threads on this forum over the last couple weeks. I understand that generally the idea is to financially benefit from manipulating internet traffic. I'm still reading and thinking over things so I haven't tried anything yet, but I imagine I will soon.

One thing I've noticed is that most of the time people are using programs (xrumer, senuke, scrapebox, etc..) to control that traffic in some automated way. From what I've seen, almost all of these programs are executables that run locally on your computer. Is there a reason more of these programs aren't web-based, 2.0 style applications? It seems like a web-based application would have some real benefits for IM related work. You'd get reliable hardware and internet connections, bandwidth would be scalable, and you wouldn't always have to be attending your computer and software.

The move towards web-based applications seems like it'd be great. Why aren't there more programs like this? Have I missed something?

The obvious reason is that they are resource intensive apps and makes no financial sense to have them in a SaaS form.

When you say they're resource intensive apps, do you mean they're resource intensive to program or resource intensive to run?

To run. Many of these apps run on a vps for just 1 user. While a SaaS may sound good, the resources needed to run say Senuke for 1000 users gets pretty large. Now scale that up to what you would need just to run say scrapebox for the BHW community, its getting pretty large scale.
