Sorry, I am not sure where to post this but want to get some ideas from you guys!
My local public school's websites are all just trash.. From 2008, old ass. I've tried contacting them about redoing them (There are probably 30) or even a couple at least! However they insist on keeping everything in house. Which is really frustrating because clearly the in house employees are shit.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can land these guys? I left a message for a manager, who never got back to me. And I actually went there and was shot down be a secretary.

Should I do a few mockups for them for free and send them their way?

The problem is you are trying to work for a public school. Anything involving the government/children is a lot stricter in terms of requirements and regulations

Make the unofficial school webpage with all the same information and a better design... put it public and let it rank on its own...

just kidding...

Just shame them publicly in social media and move on... they have no budget for it and probably feel the current site gets the job done.

Haha I might do without the public shaming, probably not good for company image..

I know that's the problem. I have never had any luck with anything related to government.. That's why I was curious if anyone had any good ideas. They really are embarrassingly terrible to look at..

Offer to do it for free if they provide testimonials for your website and let you use them as a reference. I bet it leads to a lot of other community gigs down the road.
