    Hi everyone,

I need some advise from people who are building websites for local businesses etc.

I have made about 5(and seo too) and now I will build one for my self and showcase the work I have done.

What I want to know from you experience folk is whats the best way in terms of hosting websites for clients.

    1. Do you tell the client to arrange for domain and hosting.
    2. Do you advise them to host from a specific host with your affiliate link
    3. Do you host domain and hosting for them and charge them
    4. Or do you use reseller hosting, this I have never done before, is this the cheapest option? do you charge them for hosting on a monthy basic or up front?

Considering I will purchase a domain name and hosting for my self very soon, this cost can go towards reseller hosting if thats the best option.

BTW I don't charge more than £200 for a website.

Thanks for taking the time out to read and answer.

I ask the client if they have a domain and hosting, if not then I'll include that in my quotation and charge them accordingly, either putting their domain on my shared hosting account or getting the bigger clients their own hosting package.

I always ask for £100/year maintenance cost. If they don't want it, I explain what these £100 will be used for and they get a bit confused since most of them don't even know what hosting/domain is ... they just pay me £100/year and I sort it out for them. £100 a year for a business is nothing really :)

    £100 per year that's a good idea !

Problem is most of my clients have been startups, so they have a tight budget. They expect me to bring in business and grow their little enterprise. Do you guys get the same expectations?

So I don't need to worry about hosting too much, For my own website I'll purchase a Baby Plan from hostgator which allows unlimited domains to be added and then use the same plan for clients and charge them for the privilege?

Anyone see any problems with that,

    Thanks

The Baby plan does not allow unlimited add-on domains, does it?

It does, and the price yesterday was about 90$ for the year, just checked a minute ago and its at $58 !

I'm an affiliate but no point in buying through my own affiliate code, if somebody buys through mine I'll buy through yours if thats allowed :p

I have a reseller hosting account on a shared server, perfect for small medium business.

I change most clients £100 per year + domain renewal if required.

We could discuss a referral agreement if you like? PM me if interested. I could do a one off commission per client or potentially yearly.

I started to make websites + do SEO since last month and we have received 2 project in local market.

    1. Do you tell the client to arrange for domain and hosting.

No never, we charge some amount for each year to update hosting + domain.

    2. Do you advise them to host from a specific host with your affiliate link
No they don't want to know about it.

    3. Do you host domain and hosting for them and charge them

    4. Or do you use reseller hosting, this I have never done before, is this the cheapest option? do you charge them for hosting on a monthy basic or up front?

We used, unlimited hosting package for all clients.

Try to host their websites at your own host/Make own hosting company and charge them. If they don't pay you in future, they loose their website. Simple as that.

I honestly think that different clients and circumstances will call for different choices. Ask them if they want the whole thing done for them and then work down from there if they have some or all of that done already. If you set it up for them you can charge them for it directly or just do it through your affiliate link when you sign them up.

I leave the choice up to them.

I explain that they have to have a hosting account, and that they can buy their own, or I can recommend someone (affiliate link), or I can provide the hosting for them.

I used to add them to my unlimited account, but I recently bought a reseller account to put them on so they have their own control panel, and make the sites I am building to flip less complicated when I sell.

I encourage them to use my hosting at $20 a month, because I will be available once each month for updates and ssupport if they need it.

If they get their own hostiong, they will have to be the person doing updates, calling to figure out the problems that might occur. If they cannot do this support work (and no one can), I tell then that they will have to pay me or someone to do it if it happens, but if they go with me, I do this trouble shooting and one change a month if they need to update or change something.

So far they go with me, and the first customer paid for the whole year for the reseller account.

Now I offer 3 month payments to make it easier for the customer.

Good to hear about your progress, and thanks for the advice.

Techxan, I really like the idea of purchasing reseller hosting and charging clients a monthly/yearly fee.

    Thanks guys.

Can anyone recommend some reseller companies, I am in the UK. Doesn't have to be a UK company but it would make it easier if I need to speak on the phone.

fasthosts charge £19.99 ex VAT for the first year then £49.99 ex vat

heartinternet £1 for first month then £34.99

    Any cheaper companies out there?

Obviously I want to use someone who won't go bust anytime soon, Who do you guy use?

    Cheers
