WEAK sites to target for HIGHER RANKINGS...

I've read numerous times (but have not implemented yet) that forums are some of the best sites to try and compete with for keywords as they have no control of keyword density (user generated content) and thus targeting that keyword with a content rich (keyword density controlled) piece of content is "easy pickings".

I wanted to know if any of you follow this approach and whether you have had success with it?

And YES, i am aware i have inferred forums are weak while asking for advice from one of the worlds biggest and most knowledgable forums :)

Also, with most of the keywords today - If it is an established keyword and it has super low competition, there is a very small market for it, or none.

I thought as much - i am assuming you also use cpc to also see commercial value of word during your keyword research?

No. Just check for example Amazon (depending on the keyword), whether such product is actually selling.

And if i was going for a word that wasn't linked to something i want to sell on amazon, then what kind of sites would you feel are easier to outrank for certain keywords (apart from obvious low links).

All i could think of was forums and maybe mega sites like ebay, gumtree etc that rank for certain keywords with fuck all links or onpage optimisation?//

It's not that easy to outrank big names, regardless of optimization or not. Read that thing from @splishsplash I sent you, it's all answered there.

I have read that and it did not explicitly explain what i just asked?

Could you quote the part from that guide that explains that because i can't see it?

I like seeing other black hat sites, it's just a matter of telling myself I'll outdo them

I dont really get the established kw part, but are u saying that of a kw has low competition, then its not profitable? Cuz I will really disagree on that

By the established I meant, that the KW is not new. For example some newly released CPA weight loss product is not an established KW.

And I haven't said it's not profitable, BUT there might not be market for it. The lower the competition, the bigger chance this might be the case, so due dilligence is in order.

And few more things to OP:

If you see affiliate sites ranking, then you know that you can rank too. If you do not see them, then there's mostly a good reason why there are not any. If you believe KW is easy, yet there are not any aff sites, always check pages 3 and further. Those can reveal much more than top 10. If you see affiliate sites there with decent profiles, you can be sure that the KW is a no go. Always check further than just top 10. Oftentimes you can see easy looking aff sites, but you do not see the hidden army of PBN links. Go further, check pages 2 - 5 and check profiles of sites there. If they are good, then the KW is a no go as well.
 
I find many missed good kw's all the time -_-

It depends how u do ur kw research

I admit, KW research is not an area where I excel, so you are most likely much better in it than I am. It's still the hardest and most crucial aspect of every SEO campaign. Screw the first step and you are done already.

Had not thought of going further than page 1 if i'm being honest.
