Watch Me start a Drop Shipping business

Hey everyone!

Check it out,
I currently am in some financial trouble to keep it short, left a job to follow a business venture that had failed. Now I don't think I can go back to working in a standard job/office environment.

Drop shipping has intrigued me from the first time I heard about it.

Since I no longer have a full time source of income I am in need of figuring out a way to make some cash.

How would you all feel about watching/helping/advising me on starting a drop shipping business?

I understand that this will take some time, a lot of hard work and some late nights.

My basic skill set consists of the following
  • Software Development (Python/Django, PHP, SQL)
  • Web Design (Photoshop, HTML/CSS, Basic graphic designer)
  • Linux/Windows
  • Sound System Design for Concerts
  • Recording
  • Audiophile

In my head I am wanting to drop ship quality audio products I am passionate about. (Its all about the WHY? isn't it)

Where I need help currently is what bases I need to cover to get this thing off the ground...

I figure my initial TODO is
  • Company Name
  • Tax ID
  • Research Tax Laws
  • Wholesaler
  • eBay Account
  • Paypal Account
  • Bank Account
  • Domain Name

  • Website with shopping cart

Am I missing anything?

zb you have any experience in drop shipping?
 
Without any experience in the field, and without a big name on your head, you will have trouble finding legit (and reasonably priced) suppliers for most of your audiophile equipment.

Many of these companies have been restricting the sales and pricing of their items more stringently over the last few years, making them a bit harder to sell and market.

That being said, you do have an upper hand, being that you truly understand the products. However, I wouldn't limit yourself to that. Definitely try to find some nice audio products to market, but don't be afraid to step out of CE.

In addition to eBay, you should also look into opening an Amazon store. Otherwise, you have your business essentials lined out above. Then you get to search for suppliers :)

Bit of an audiophile myself, though I'm more into headphones than anything else. What are you looking at drop shipping specifically, or are you just going to be doing all audio?
 
I was planning on starting with headphones. Then expanding into DJ stuff then into speakers(Danley/D&B). Hopefully growing into a big awesome company.

I have a headphone company in mind, Ultrasone, they make some of the best head phones I have ever seen. But I have yet to listen to the Audio Technica M50's....

Ultrasone Hifi 680's have the flattest frequency response and most phase coherent design I have seen in a headphone.

I figure if I get a distributor agreement with them I will start marketing the hell out of them and see if I can make a splash in the market.

As someone who's been there and done that, I can definitely tell you that finding the suppliers will be the biggest challenge. I'm not trying to discourage you, but it took me years to build my list in my niche. Also, it will take quite a bit of capital to start a venture like that.

With that being said, I have a source I'm thinking maybe beneficial in finding suppliers I don't mind giving up. PM incoming. :)

Ahh nice. I'm an Audio Technica guy myself. Started with the ATH-AD900s then moved my way up to the ATH-W1000x and now I'm on the ATH-W3000ANVs. They're a fantastic maker of headphones, I love them. I have a lod of Sennheisers lying around the place too but I find them meh compared to Audio Technicas.

Best of luck man, working with something you love is the best way to live.
 
be patient and market your company and products... and keep doing it ... and apply to build business credit and build credit ... unless u got $100.000 cash .. u should be fine ...:)
 
Thats one thing I really need to work on is the credit thing :) I do not have much cash sitting around xD

Remember to promote yourself like any business

1) have a blog with good content
2) video marketing! explain the value of your products
3) forum marketing! join relevent forums and spam the **** out of them (just kidding, instead, add valuable content, tutorials and answer questions)
4) build a list from day one!
 
Hey Silntbob, I'm definitely interested in your progress. Finding a legitimate supplier that can ship products quickly seems like a hurdle but if you can jump it I think you'll be successful. Good luck.
