Was told ahrefs is worthless.

The guy had given me reasons why it was worthless. I am looking through my emails to try and find exactly what he said.

but according to him you guys are just being fooled or not getting accurate information. So you might lik eit and use it, but that does not mean it is telling you anything true.

But I will try to find what he said.

As far as being a tool, if it is a worthless tool then it is not worth using. But I am trying to find out.

Did that someone give you a link, to some sort of sales page?

Ok so the dude is right!

Would you rather know a good portion of your links or none at all? Does the fact that it can't show you every single link you have or a competitor has, make it useless in your opinion? There is not a single piece of software/service that will show you all the links you have created. Not google, not majestic, not SEO Spyglass... aHrefs is if not the best, then in top 3 for accuracy and sheer quantity. For analysis and ease of use, you'd be hard pressed to top it.

So what exactly does this "dude" use for tracking all his links, evaluating his competitors links, analyzing his backlink profile for anchor ratios, link types, unique domains, noFollow d0Follow percentages, etc etc etc. All the things that make aHrefs so powerful and useful.

If he has something better up his sleeve, I sure would like to know... but this all smells of B.S. somehow anyway.

its very useful to me.

Ok so basically he says that ahrefs does not or can not report all the backlinks. They tell you of only the ones they know of that exist rather than about all the ones that do exist. He sites there own representative as proof:

I have to agree with him. I know how many backlinks my site has, and ahrefs doesn't report anywhere near all of them.

The guy is absolutely right, you should not be using ahrefs to check what backlinks you have made, especially not if the links were made recently. You have to realise they only have limited resources and cannot crawl every page on the internet nearly as often as Google or even Bing and as a result they cannot indexed nearly as much of the internet.

Ahrefs is worthless to people with no clue - people that build backlinks and rush to Ahrefs 5 minutes later to see if the links have "shown up". Ahrefs has a very good database, their database is updated 24/7, but that doesn't mean that they will find all your links or that they will find them 3 seconds after they have been built.

The only thing that they should tone down is using dirty little tricks to pump up their numbers, a single sidewide link on a large site is reported as 1000s of links, a single blog comment is often reported as 100s of links, and so on... If you download the first 10 000 links and remove the duplicate URLs you often end up with 5 000, 6 000 URLs - nobody can convince me that these guys that have built one of the best backlink databases don't know how to remove duplicate URLs before displaying the links. I am not totally against the "fake it till you make it" approach, but once you start charging a hefty monthly fee, you should clean your act.

It doesn't find all links. Simple as that. 5 minutes later or 5 months later, after the links are indexed and very visible in Webmaster tools.

Ahrefs is very Important for to get information about my Competitor Backlink.
By knowing your Competition backlink you have more possibilities to rank like them even higher.

You are 100% correct, there is not a single tool out there that finds all your links. if you know of any, by all means share with us ;) If you want to find most of your own site's links, use various sources, use ahrefs, GWT, Majestic, etc. ... add them up, remove duplicates, verify them and you will still end up with most likely 30-40% of all links your site has.

ahrefs is one of the best way to find backlinks of your own website as well as your competitors too.

Apparently from the information I have shared it's not really. maybe some but not mostly.

If you use a bit of each tool, you would be golden.

There are too many comments for me to reply to.

But I see people posting as if they have not read the whole thread. i do that sometimes.

But one thing that someone noticed as well as I did is that ahrefs does seem to be accurate when it comes to facebook and twitter accounting. I see the exact number of FB links I have within minutes usually of posting them.

So I guess ahrefs is good for that. But for sure it appears ahrefs does not give even a remotely accurate picture of yours OR yours competitions backlinks.

I guess the proof would be someone who used ahrefs to see a competitor way ahead of them and then after a backlinking campaign had pasted the competitor only to see ahrefs still ahead of them in the backlinking department. any one seen that?

That sounds good, but how do you know that? Are you assuming that or do you have a way of actually knowing that?

I've been using it for several years now, and even made the switch from Majestic SEO.

It does show the links, but not all of them. I don't think any tool like Ahrefs can give you a 100% accuracy when it comes to showing the links for a particular site. Despite that being said, I still use Ahrefs and it works fine for me for what I need.
