I see what you mean, however, there are chances that they are telling truth as it seems this is not a BIG update that effected every other site.
Something has happened. I have two sites with the same keyword. Site #1, duplicated content, site #2 original content. Site #1 I blasted the $hit out of it with xrumer. Before it was sitting on page 2. The second site I did everything 'properly'. i made high quality web 2.0s, articles, etc. etc. Backlinked the backlinks, etc. etc. It was on page 1, #3. Today I checked my rankings. The site I blasted with xrumer is sitting nicely at #2 and the 'proper' website is now sitting on page 3! WTF?
wtf @ bh sites ranking better than legit sites. Will be interesting to see if it stays that way.

Yeah i've noticed a huge -77 place drop in one of my sites - its back now but it's just something we have to put up with!

I don't think it will stay this way. One of my penguin slapped sites was down to like 500+ and now is back on the 3rd page. I gave up on the site as nothing (deoptimize keyword density, anchor, related links etc) worked to get it back. Before penguin it was #2. All links were unrelated to the niche and pure xrumer blasts. Wait for a while to see how this update works. I see a lot of other penguin slapped sites coming back up. Any one else notice this?

Sites are getting penalized due to the disavow tools. Happened to me. My sites dropped and didn't jump back..
How is the disavow tool penalizing sites?
I'm just going to chime in, that the 18th is when I started to get really good search engine traffic. My search engine traffic is through the roof right now. But, tbh, it was like this right before the October panda update, when I got hit hard (I recovered in the November update, and have been ticking upwards progressively ever since)
