Proxies are by no mean can be used as protection. Use them only for account creation.

Enabling javascript would have equally disastrous consequences, in terms of privacy. You could open any arbitrary add-on in such circumstances.
 
It's all about reading the small print, I guess!

My opinion on this is split, depending on what the provider promises you. If they promise you anonymity then they should certainly provide absolute anonymity. They shouldn't be selling something on a promise that they can't deliver. On the other hand, if they made no promises it's on you for not checking thoroughly enough. If you're going to tread the line between "the light side" and "the dark side" then you have to make sure you're totally covered. Them's the breaks, I'm sorry to say.
 
Cover up your web cam and wear a ski mask when you do seo, that is what I do!
 
In my opinion 99% of proxies will not protect you. If a big name company really wants your info they can just get the log from the proxy source. That is of course if they are keeping a log. I could be wrong but that's what I think anyway.
 
But when I check my IP address after logging in through a proxy it does show a different IP..How on earth do they get to know the real IP then :o

Which is as true for VPN's. So for anyone who thinks of doing extremely illegal things, think again. Neither proxies or VPN will protect you when they really want to get you. And that's assuming it's not a honeypot in the first place.

Proxies are good for scraping Google and registering on sites as "different" person, but unless you absolutely know what you're doing and have the technical knowledge to do so, don't think they will keep you safe from laws or subpoenas.
 
Use this site ip-score.com to check your shit guys. Run decloaking tests and it will show if your DNS or real ip visible by java or flash.
 
you proxy CHAIN.. hence gaining anonymity.
vip72.com has a proxy chain program they hand out for free with service, or just use any free open source version around to chain

a VPN is not used for anonymity. it's used to conceal your internet traffic from your ISP and spies. it's a tunnel. on top of that tunnel you add proxies, or RDP (remote desktop) this is how you gain anonymity

also if truly worried use a prepaid SIM card internet dongle or hacked wireless + VPN (you made..using OpenVPN.. very easy 2 do) + multiple socks. by the time the second socks proxy is broken you've already switched out VPNs (buy a new vps in russia) or SIM cards. you win
