just because you are using a proxy, that doesn't mean they can't see your real ip.
I have made a huge mistake of assuming that...I am not going to confess to anything on an online forum, but let's just say I do not want some people to know my real ip and they do. why? because there is something called a transparent proxy...which means it doesnt hide shit....
scrapebox's ip check does not check for anonymity. a proxy could pass the check and be transparent.
you want anonymous proxies, which are slower.
so be aware of that.

For sure they are not all hiding identities :D There's different classes of anonymities.

If you are doing something illegal, you should at least first learn how to protect yourself...

VPNs are cheap and always don't show your (true) IP but I guess with HTTP proxies you can have a whole heap of different countries or ranges say 20 different IPs for however much you pay. But yeah as others have said there is transparent and anonymous proxies and anonymous proxies are definitely not as common as transparent. I learnt my lesson the hard way a long time ago but eh everything is a learning curve. I was involved in the hacking scene a long time ago (that's when I learnt this).

The thing is.. there are many types of different proxies. Those that you can scrape with Scapebox, well.. most of them suck and show your real IP if people really wanna see your IP, but for example so called "elite" or "level 1" proxies.. they are hiding most of your information. Of course it can be tracked down, but they are the best for spamming your links. If you want to hack somebody or do some illegal stuff, better use a good VPN + proxies :P

Sorry to say, but that's actually a pretty well known fact, and even without knowing anything about proxy servers, you should at least have read the wikipedia article on proxies to understand the restrictions and risks involved in using them, even more so once you actually want to rely on a proxy to hide your ass.

But don't worry: it's a part of learning, just hope it's not too expensive ;-)

It goes further than this. Even if you have an ANONYMOUS proxy (public or private), you are still trusting the proxy provider. What you don't know is if the proxy provider is an organization that is using the proxy as a honeypot, and is inspecting all traffic through the proxy.

they still work fine for mass account creation :).

The OP is talking shit.

The Scrapebox Proxy Checker does check to see whether or not the proxy you are using forwards your IP on to the target server.

No shit sherlock. Wow how can someone be so naiv...
I use three times stacked IP security if I need to be really safe.
(Private dedicated server in russia -> Private elite proxy -> TOR)

(Private BF dedicated server in russia -> Private BF elite proxy -> TOR)

What is BF?

Just keep in mind the attack points throughout this chain:

  • TOR - Tor exit nodes can maliciously changes your traffic. A lot of govt actors run exit nodes. So be extra wary of downloads through Tor. And Tor traffic is more suspicious, so your traffic gets more scrutiny through Tor.
  • Private elite proxy - If this gets compromised, then you're piping all your traffic through there. And also the IP of your dedi is known.
  • Private dedi in Russia - If this gets compromised you're hosed. But you already knew that.
