if you're at hg check to make sure your accounts are all working! my site was down all day, until i changed the dns numbers back to the old setup!

I have used Hostgator at first, but when they started to charge extra for resources i found some local hosting dealers which offers unlimited everything for as cheap as 7usd a month (my country is top in hosting, internet, laser technology etc), so it's much better.. I don't even know why many people use Hostgator :/
 
If you don't get any complaints HG is awesome, I once used 5TB on shared hosting in one month, and they didn't shut down my site

I had a problem the other day with that, no telling how much $ I lost, it seems to be all figured out now at least on my server.
 
I didn't had a problem on any of my sites so far with my 2 accounts. All of them are loading properly. But saw several people having problem wit the. They might be upgrading theserver, as i got one mail from them recently mention about the upgrade and downtime.
 
they just moved me to a new server and then told me to update the numbers.
i kept getting errors ("domain unavailable", "page forbidden", etc.) until i noticed that my 2nd accounts were running okay. the only difference was i left their dns numbers as-is!

once i switched back, everything was okay. at least for now...
 
Same thing happened here. Is Hostgator aware of this? They should solve this issue. It's totally inconvenient asking me to update and these problems start occurring.
 
they probably know about it. when i called yesterday i was on hold for 15+ minutes.
i got tired and decided to try switching the dns numbers back and that solved the problem.

i suspect that many people called them about the trouble...
 
I've been checking my website throughout the whole day and I notice time to time my websites gets so freaking slow. It's no wonder why I've been losing a lot of money ever since hostgater switch my site to a different server. I'm using the business package & I got a friend that is using hostgater VPS & told me it is slow for him as well. Will it ever get stable or Hostgater is now dead and a crappy company?
 
I always stick up for hostgator but they pulled that new server shit on me last week and half of my sites have been unuseable since. Support has been suprisingly shit.

For the forst 3 days my sites were taking 30 seconds to load....they tried to tell me that was my fault as I needed to optimise my sites. This despite the fact that my sites were all loading in under 1.5 secs on the previous server. They have managed to get most of my sites back up but my two main sites are not loading pictures correctly and look shit.

Pretty pissed off with them right now.
 
Had a problem a week or so ago while they were upgrading the servers.
Had to change nameservers etc but OK now.

My sites got put on new servers as well. Everything is fine. But for the first few days I did notice some slow load times.


I recently opened an account with we love servers... THe entire server crashed and they never ran backups. It's a good thing I was only using for two EMD's and tiered back linking. All of the sites are gone. Lessons with backups learned. Oh well. :)
 
Yes my sites are currently down.
I changed the DNS nameservers and I am waiting for the ISP providers to catch up.
 
Even the best make shit moves. To bad it's HG. Their shared hosting never disapointed me till now.

"Please note that your previously configured nameservers will continue to work:

1st: xyz.hostgator.com
2nd: xyz.hostgator.com

If you utilize a 3rd party to host your DNS, you will need to make sure you point your domain to the following server IP address: 123.123.123.123

Otherwise, no action will be required and we will move your DNS over to the new machine for you."

Now,my sites are all running and I didn't change anything.Should I update the DNS on my namecheap account or not?

changing the numbers at namecheap is what caused the problem. as soon as i switched back the domains worked.
 
The problem with the email from HG is that it is not very clear.

"Please note that your previously configured nameservers will continue to work:"
"If you utilize a 3rd party to host your DNS, you will need to make sure you point your domain to the following server IP address:"
"Otherwise, no action will be required and we will move your DNS over to the new machine for you."

What I found was that YOU WILL have to change the nameservers but NOT straight away only when they stop working. Which for me was about a week after the upgrade.

The best thing to do is, if your site is working fine then don't change anything UNTIL your site goes down/can't be found.

Use a free server monitoring service then when it goes down change the DNS/nameservers.

Yeah you have to change your name servers at namecheap or wherever your domains were bought. They are temporarily hosting your content for you, but if you update the site, you see it won't show up unless you update your name servers :)
 
This is so fcuked up.

I've got two shared hosting accounts...one of those is migrated and I didn't have to change anything,the sites are fine.All the sites on the second account are down.

How long does this migration lasts?

ok, I updated mine to the NEW servers provided by HG via email, and they are now working, thanks for this thread, or else I wouldn't have realized.
