Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not I apologise.
Firsly, I'm not a complete novice, I am a CIWI (Certified Internet Webmaster Instructor). I have a number of Microsoft Instructor qualifications, as well as TCP/IP and Internet Security qualifications. However those were all obtained 'back in the day' with HTML 1, ASP 1, javascript was for button rollovers and getting a good SERP meant keyword spamming. Don't think the acronym SERP had even been invented yet, definitely not SEO. (So those certificates pretty much mean squat now 80)
I have done everything from selling custom designed PC mods, to Lecturing, to Designing and implementing a country wide Wireless Network and a whole host of things in between.
Five years ago, I had a serious car accident and ended up in a coma for 7 weeks. Three months in hospital, 14 surgeries and a year of physical therapy rehab, I had lost my business and well pretty much everyting.
For the last three years I have been contracting to the South African government developing .NET based traffic camera offence processing software, but my health is making it impossible for me to continue such a long term commitment. I need something to do from home, that I can work on when my health allows, that has the potential to keep my bills paid.
"Well that's easy enough I'll just whip up a quick website in Dreamweaver and I'll be making money in no time."
My first rude awakening came when I found out that Dreamweaver doesnt even support ASP any more, and it just went down hill from there. LOL
Ok well to the point (finally). Since the beginning of December 2010, I have one webstore open, a second ready to open (just waiting on bank for payment portal) and a third about 60% of the way there.
The store that is open is slowly climbing up the google charts, very slowly it's painful. (I know white hat takes time) It has a 85 - 89% score on IBP (depending on SE used for link popularity) for whatever that is worth.
I am in desperate need of backlinks though so I am thinking Article Marketing Robot is probably a good idea, I have done a fair number of manual article posts but man that's work!! I have also subscribed to LinkPushing and am starting to see results.
Really what I am looking for is a mentor to take a look at what I've done so far and make suggestions on how to improve things. Oh and answer all the dumb newb questions I have (like why the heck does Yahoo only index one page??). I have a few more stores I want to open in the very near future, and I would also like to get into affiliate marketing. I know that a successfull site needs more than just to be on the first page of google, word choice and asthetics of landing page all play a roll.
I am incredibly committed and serious about this, so your time will not be wasted I promise.
If anybody feels the need to take me under their wing, I would be eternally gratefull, and (as long as I can get her to sign the paperwork) I will rename my firstborn after you.
Thanks in advance.
Dave
