Wanna live in Netherlands!

I hear its a very expensive place. Car insurance costs 100s of euros a month, gas prices sky high, and smokes close to 10 euros. Can't believe people go there to smoke pot cos its legal there, no news on the costs at the coffee shops though. Food is expensive and rents are high too. I had Europe in mind for a long time, but now I think USA or CA.

But if it has been your dream from childhood, costs shouldn't really come in the way.

You are wrong, I was there 3 months ago for a rave "Pacha Festival" and I can assure you it is not illegal! There has been talk of this for a long time but they don't seem to have passed anything and I doubt they will, as far as I know it's up to the local councils in each area if they choose to enforce it or not - a dutch person could likely explain this better, but 100% it's still freely and easily available to tourists..

One thing I did notice on my last trip which was disapointing though is that a number of the more famous coffee shops (The Grasshopper, Hill Street Blues and a few others) have been forced to turn into just plain bars or cafes now with a new distance law they brought in.. something about how close you are to a local school, its kind of retarded though as directly across from Hill Street Blues (now just a cafe) they have set up a new cafe selling weed and have "sponsored by hill street blues" on the door, but its fine because it's 5 or 6 yards away.. wtf lol

People who say car insurances are 100s of euro's are completely wrong. I had a car here (old one) and i paid all the taxes and insurances for total of 70 euro's. It could go up ofcourse, but never 100s of euro's. I live in a house with 3 bedrooms, bathroom, large garden etc. And i pay 600 euro's a month for it. The only problem is that i live in a small town far from Amsterdam but it's fun here.
