The OP came on here and advised what budget he wanted to pay per hour ( Yes it is low, but you will get people working for crazy low money ).

Why on earth would he be interested in paying 5 times more to hire you, when you can hire VAs through the marketplace for $3 or $4 an hour.

If I wanted a clerk to do my filing @ £8 an hour, I'd not expect someone to say, I can do that but I want £40 an hour.

@MisterF It's not about expecting or not from OP, I know he is on low a budget, but as i mentioned already if he changes his mind. That should be clear. And yes people do change mind sometimes.

You say it's low. How much did you 1st job pay. Assuming your from India, did you get 25k INR on the 1st month itself when your started earning?

I started with 6k INR salary. So, do that math.

6 hours per day X 5 days a week = $60 X 4 weeks = $240 which is around 15K INR. More than the 1st salary of many people in India. Even today, after several years of experience and good knowledge, I know many people work for low salary, just cos they want a fixed monthly pay to cover their commitments.

If they all come and start working as freelancers, you will not get a chance of asking $8 per hour due to huge availability of people ready to work.

If this is the case for taking India as an example, then there are many other countries with currency value lower than INR and $2 per hour is a huge page for them.

You people are funny.. Around a month ago there was a thread were a guy was offering $5/day for 10 hours of work. I remember that well cause I was kinda shocked. Also there was plenty of people posting on that thread and willing to work. What OP is offering in some third world countries is damn good money.

I think it has to be looked at what tasks someone wants doing.

If it's as an example cut and paste text, or uploading information then you go with a cheaper price.

If you're wanting technical expertise such as WP development, then you'd expect to pay more.

My point here was he said from the first post it is basic work, so my point is why pay $8 or $10 when you can get it for $2, $2.5 or $3.

Sometimes people are so in need of money they are willing to drop rates, just to be able to feed themselves or get money for rent ( again, as an example ).

I dunno... I've never had much luck with freelancers and I've paid pretty fair (above fair, actually) prices. Every single one (except one guy, who I didn't find while actually looking for freelancers) has failed to actually stick around long enough to finish a complete project. It got so bad that I no longer pay a dime until completion. Paying by the hour is risky in my view. No way to measure actual time NEEDED to complete tasks, they could quit at any time.

Reading all these posts about freelancers and how tough it is to find em makes me happy that I live in India. I can get a guy to push buttons for me 40hrs/week.

I would need an office and only pay him $200 per month.
