Using Wix and Free Websites to Get Started?

Hello all,

I'm new here, but long time lurker. I just have one question for y'all...how come none of you are utilizing wix's FREE websites to get started and then upgrading to your own domain later for affiliate marketing? If you are utilizing it, I don't see tons of you posting about it (maybe because people don't want you to know about it? oops..). Yeah, anyway, I've been looking to get started in Micro Niche and Website flipping (already bought a domain lol) myself and was curious.

Because wix is shit and if your serious about making money you would spend $1-10 on a domain and 20-40$ for a years hosting.
 
I have heard about that its look a good idea but the problem is how to get traffic
 
I think you will get mixed answers. Some will say don't use free sites, others will say it's fine to get started. I've seen both types of comments regarding this topic.

One thing to know is that whenever you use Wix, Weebly, Blogger, etc., you are using SOMEONE ELSE'S sub-domain. Which means you don't have full control of your content and such. At any time your site could be taken down without notice, then all of your work is history.

If you feel as though it's worth the risk, go for it. Also if I may make a suggestion, go over to the "Im Journeys" section, start yourself a journey using a free site and document your progess on the thread to share with everyone. You never know, you may have some success and it would certainly help others to learn through you successes and failures.

Well if you are using a platform like wix, blogger or others, the options will be really limited about what you do. If you are starting out, there is nothing wrong with starting a free site. My first money came from a free site too :)

Right, that's what I thought. That's why I'm not going to build my entire brand with free wix sites because of that reason. If they decide to shut me down I lose ALL my income streams. I only am using this to practice SEO and make enough money to afford my own domain, hosting, and content writers. And also, thanks for the good advice about the IM Journey. I'm sure it will be useful to both myself and others.

Well that's good to hear that you were able to make some money with a free site. I'm not looking to get rich off free sites. It's mostly just for me to get a better idea of the audience and how to monetize it before going all in. I'm a cheap motherfucker (probably the Scottish blood in me ;)).


Thank you all for your input. I will be sure to post in 'IM Journeys' and use your feedback in my endeavors. I'm hoping for success but do not expect any money for 6 months, which I think is fair. It amazes me how much money there is to be made in this world...and people just don't take advantage :(

Personally, i tried and used Wix myself to start a website previously. The real difference is SEO actually, as there are limitations on what you can actually do with Wix. As compared to Shopify ( if you are Ecomm ), they made it much easier and much more optimised. For Wordpress( I do not represent them ), the options to customise how you direct your SEO and meta tagging and stuff is way detail.

There are lots of negative comments on Wix but i will not say it exactly poor but all i can say so far is , it is just not that great if you want to use it for making money. For people here, SEO is critical which WIX is limited.

Just a suggestion, go wix then don't forget to buy a domain which they offer. Do note they do not offer email hostings ...so you get ready to spend more if you want your domain email.

Why don't go with the free wordpress.com version and try to compatible with Wordpress so that when you're confident enough to make a serious decision. You can start a real one with Wordpress.org sersion and try to learn something new in setting a wordpress website along the way.
That's just my 2 cent to help you have more considerable options for your target.

I would seriously not recommend it man.

You're basically just building Wix & Co's domains for themselves.

You should always start out with your own domain so whatever you do ends up in your domain's history.

Nope but I haven't really been looking either. I might do what Yokohama said and use a free wordpress and buy it later.
