Using PBNs? Don't Make This Mistake

PBNs are one of the strongest links you can get today which can help you rank. However, if you are not careful of footprints then you might end up losing them. Sure you might be blocking all the bots but PBNs can be found manually too.

To understand, first, let us learn a little about Google Operators (You can skip this section if you already know this)

For this guide, you only need to know about 2 types of operators

First up is the Exact Search (Yeah, I made that name up just now). This looks something like
9FmklXC

As you can see, it will find exact matches of the search query you entered.

The other operator which will be useful is the Exclude Operator. For example,
7kg54vy

This will exclude the given site from the SERPs, using this you will be able to narrow down results.

So how is this helpful to you and what does this have to do anything with PBNs? Let me show you.

For example, consider my competitor, DigiExcellence.

Please note that this is completely made up and I am just using this demonstration purposes.

Now, if I perform a Google Search for this term, I get
yPZfeNb


As you can see, Google returned 18,80,000 results, which is an insane number.

However, if I wanted to find this site's PBNs, I could easily narrow down the number of results and check them manually using Google Search Operators. This can be done like this

I narrowed the results down to 70, which is not intimidating at all.

Therefore, if you are gonna use PBNs don't use anchor texts like
This is because it might expose your PBNs. Instead, use LSIs or other related anchors which will return a lot more results and make it harder for your competitors to find your PBNs.

Problem nowadays is that site with no URL or branded anchors is considered as un-natural backlink profile website. So you're in risk to get it penalized.

All I am saying is that you shouldn't use these anchor texts for the PBNs, as it compromises their security. You're free to use naked URLs and branded anchors for the rest of your backlinks.
 
This is something to consider, yes. Still, I link with brand anchors most of the time from my PBNs.

Your PBN might get discovered by competitors, sure, but then again, if your competitor really wants to take you down, he will one way or the other. I completely loathe people who do this, but it's ridiculously easy nowadays.

Thank for this but definitely agree with @Nargil here. I stay linking my PBNs using branded anchors as its the best hands down. Its a risk, but PBNs are considered blackhat for a reason :)

I was pretty excited to see this thread in the sense I know a lot of professional services businesses use PBNs to rank. But it doesn't seem to work that well for them:

I don't see how to check 17K links. I do see some web 2.0s on the first two pages. Any ideas?

PS. This isn't the worst. I see some other firms with 70K links from this search.

Why are you even looking for PBNs? Are out just going to out them and report them to Google like a fucking dick?

Didn't think of that way to be honest. I guess I will be using less branded anchors on PBN.
 
Some people do go around looking for PBN's. Nothing new here. I absolutely despise those people. Karma will take action towards them.

Yeah, it is harder to search for sites with a lot of backlinks. You can try with naked URLs or add more of the Web 2.0 platforms to the ignore list. This is more of a trial and error method.

Read the title. I shared this method in order to protect people's PBNs from getting found out in the first place...
 
Am I stupid or am I missing something? One can always search intext:"domain.com" and find all your PBN links. An anchor does not particularly show your website, unlike a naked URL. I quite simply don't get how you'd favour one over the other.

Using intext:"domain.com" is another way of doing the same thing. Yes, an anchor doesn't show the website unlike a naked URL, it simply creates an opportunity for others to find your PBN site. This is a semi-automatic method which can be used by people to find PBNs. I don't favour one over the other, I say try to avoid both.

I'm sorry, I completely misread your post. I thought you were promoting the use of naked urls only.
